The new PayPal Access Card..

Cool, it looks as though PayPal is finally letting those of us in the UK loose with our cards so that we can finally spend from our paypal account instead of just topping it up!

It's about time..

The new PayPal Access Card can give you instant access to your PayPal account, with no need to top up. You can use it to withdraw cash, shop online or on the high street, anywhere MasterCard cards are accepted.

Brilliant! Do you have a link to this or a release date? I've looked around the paypal site but haven't been able to find any information.

Huh. Didn't work for me, perhaps they are just offering them to top up customers now and the rest of us will be able to get one later. Soon hopefully.

Thank you for letting us know. This is good news from PayPal. I am not sure if this has been implemented yet here in Canada. If not, hopefully it will be soon.

here in the UK my accountant treats paypal just like any other bank, so I would imagine you would have to detail all transactions etc as you do with a biz account.

Yeah, it's just like having a debit or check card here in the US. If you use the card for a business expense, save the receipt as if you paid cash.

It seems as if this is only for top-up card users. I tried to apply for a paypal ATM card and received a message saying that I wasn't eligible because I didn't reside in the USA.

If they don't already have to, it's only a matter of time before PayPal will be required by law to disclose details of all account holders' financial transactions to the relevant authorities.

Running a business and not declaring what you earn is taking a foolish risk, IMO. A good accountant will make sure you don't pay a penny more tax than you need to.

This news from PayPal is most welcome. With the current top up card, you have to wait until 2pm the next day for the funds to show. Instant access is a major benefit.

Although, I have to say, it's a little funny that here in the UK, we're all rejoicing in the fact that we finally get instant access to our own money.

Yes of course they do, I've had tens of thousands of dollars go through my PP account the last few years, I doubt her Majesty's government would have been too happy if I hadn't shared it with them

Its obviously something they are just starting, maybe with orignal top up users first, I have no idea, why don't you apply for a top up card, they may well upgrade it

                Yes, at last!

But it seems PayPal are only issuing the card to selected customers for the time being (and not all previous top-up card holders).

Anyway, for anyone interested, more details can be found here:

got mine today, (paypal UK) this is so much better than the old paypal prepay card, no messing about, whatever is in your paypal account is available on the card automatically.

now if only paypal come up with a current account I'd gladly tell lloyds bank to shove their business account up their flange.

Mine was promised "mid may" but didn't materialise till now, mid june, I heard elsewhere that they are rolling it out over a few weeks. It came as an automatic replacement for my discontinued paypal pre-pay/topup card.

My accountant has asked me to use Paypal only for payments coming in, and not to spend straight from Paypal. Makes working out tax much simpler.

Then I can transfer from Paypal to my bank account (and use that account for business expenses too), and transfer from my bank account to a savings account to set aside for tax.

... so I won't be getting a Paypal access card!

        Hi All.

BE VERY AWARE THAT THE PAYPAL ACCESS CARDS SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS.

Went to use my paypal access master card at tesco's on 3/6/2012. The payment was declined. The message on the screen said 'Please use alternative tender'. ALTHOUGH there was plenty of money in my paypal account. With a big queue behind me; it was very embarrassing as I only had the paypal credit card with me. I went home and immediately phoned paypal who told me that the Paypal access cards were not working that day with a who cares attitude! They could not tell me when they will be working and told me to phone the number on the card for card services.

10 minute later I got 2 emails from paypal. One, a receipt for my payment and the other telling me that my payment had been refunded. (WHAT IS GOING ON)

I phoned the number on the card and got three options.

        1. Lost and stolen dept will answer the phone but will not help.
        2. Card services, has a message saying they are closed. THREE DAYS LATER I STILL GET THE SAME CLOSED MESSAGE
        3. Puts you through to Paypal who then tell you to ring again and choose option 2..........

I HAVE CUT MY CARD UP AND WILL NEVER USE A PAYPAL CREDIT CARD AGAIN AS I NOW HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN IT AND WOULD HAVE TO CARRY MY NORMAL BANK CARD AS WELL!

I have spoken to and registered a complaint with the financial ombudsman service and the banking ombudsman scheme.

ANYONE WHO HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM SHOULD ALSO MAKE A COMPLAINT TO THE OMBUDSMAN, PAYPAL SHOULD NOT GET AWAY WITH THEIR CAVALIER ATTITUDE TO THERE CUSTOMERS

Now they just need to put some better protection in place for sellers (ie- Sort out the chargeback lunacy)!

Heard some real horror stories about sellers losing money unfairly and then having to jump through hoops to get it back.
