Audio for Blind Customers, Transcripts for Deaf?

Hello,

Quick Question: Over the last 20+ years of selling information products, I get a question - about 1 or 2x a year - from my deaf or legally blind customers.

My legally blind customers who buy my print products would like an audio version.

My deaf customers who buy my audio products would like transcripts.

Now, with some of my products, we offer both audio and transcripts.

But I have many products that have only one or another.

I also do teleseminar trainings for my customers - that I don't provide transcripts of.

I want to be inclusive, but sometimes, it just doesn't make financial sense to transcribe a free teleseminar for an individual... or do an audio recording of a 200 course manual.

Have you come across these instances - and what have you done?

We want to include everyone - and not leave anyone out. We're just trying to balance inclusion vs. the costs of running the business.

Thanks!

Best,
Jeff

Regarding the blind, creating audio strictly for them is an altruisitic effort, commendable but probably not profitable. But if you look at it from a different standpoint, you get the best of both. Audio products allow people to listen in their car. I listen to audiobooks all the time.

So if your product is something that can come across in audio, your audiobook version could be a really nice option or upsell.
