I Need Ideas to earn $2K a month, every month starting April 2011.. "I'm ready to work hard + smart"

Hello Warriors,

Faced with certain crazy challenges and motivated by the same, I'm writing this thread for some serious help. By challenges, I don't mean hardship, but the need to do and achieve QUICKly. I'm not talking about falling for get-rich-quick schemes though.

I'm ready to work hard and smart, but I have a constraint... time. I can dedicate only up to 4 hours per weekday (and up to 8 hours on weekends). In a 30-day month, that's about 168 hours. Why just so many hours? 'coz I have a full-time job, and almost all my earnings from there go towards repaying my HUGE education loan.

What can I do? Currently, I offer content writing services, at $2 per 100 words. I don't have regular work though, but that's something I can hopefully address. I know a great deal about keyword/niche research and putting up niche websites (but I'm a dud when it comes to generating monetisation ideas). I think I can do a pretty decent job at SEO as well, but I haven't done it professionally as yet.

I need to start kickin'-ass, starting next month, and then do it every month. Kickin'-ass for me means $2,000 a month (to start with). I can spend about $100-150 in buying domains (and web hosting, of course) and advertising/promotion.

I'm looking for ideas to make some serious dough, and would appreciate any views/thoughts. If you think I'm day-dreaming, say it but back it up with concrete points as to why you think that way. I hope to use that information to get a better direction or think of alternative solutions to such hurdles, if any.

The underlying note: I'm ready to slog my butt off. I just need to see some moolah in my pocket. That's a reasonable expectation, don't you think?!

If you're ready to work hard, you'll have to make some sacrifices. Find as much time as possible to work on your online venture, and know if you're looking for "quick riches" that are consistent within a matter of days, you're most likely setting yourself up for disappointment.

There are a plethora of ideas here. I know the shortcut is to make others look for you and give you suggestions, but no one will spoon feed you. If you truly "wanted it" bad enough, you'd find a way, doing research on methods to find what fits you.

My advice? Pick a method and stick with it. While goals are good to have, don't make expectations too high by misaligning them with your current knowledge and skill set. Don't bounce from one "magic plan" to the next.

And, finally - learn as much as you can. Treat it like a business to make money like one. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, as long as you learn something from them.

If you're good at writing those articles/content then you may be a prime candidate for creating your own product of some kind.

Maybe combine that with some affiliate marketing.

      Yes, check out that thread.

You have over 400 posts so I imagine you have been around here a while and sort of know what you want to head into.

There is no quick fix, pick something and keep chipping away. Work as hard as you physically and possibly can on it.

Definitely stick to one approach. This was a mistake I repeatedly made - chasing after the next "quick hit" overnight sensation. Not only did I not make any money - I also lost a lot of money too.

Choose one way (I also agree with the previous poster who suggested your skillset indictates that product creation might be a good fit for you) and then follow it through until you start making some money.

    Then wash, rinse and repeat.

The idea of putting out my own product seems very enticing, but there are a lot more things that go with it. I guess I'll need to take up affiliate marketing and pick up a few relevant knacks before getting on with my own products. That's something I plan to do in the future. Also, it would need building a mailing list and such. I'm not trying steer clear of the work; I just think it's something I'm not up for *immediately*. But, the idea is well taken and I'll plan up for it.

What else can I do? I want to use the 12 remaining days of this month to learn things that I can start doing in April and make that targeted number of dollars.

  • Any method based off Search Engine Results cannot guarantee that you will hit your goal by the end of one month; two possibly and even three. I'm guessing you know why, but Google is strange in the way it likes to work; if it doesn't decide to keep you from being indexed, it might put you in the sandbox instead.

Something which can keep you from getting results for months.

Having said that, offering services is a good way to receive money up-front, and is a method that you have more control over.

Again, product releases; article syndication; Ezines; Classified Ads; PPC; PPV and offline CPA advertising are all methods more likely of succeeding within a quicker time-frame with greater control.

You can do a lot more than the above. If it's a goal you simply must hit, then going SEO is a big gamble.

    Jay.

That's right. I'm (ideally) trying to visualise it as a must-hit goal. But then again, I'm also aware that this will be short-term moolah. However, if I start making $2K a month working 168 hours on it, I'll be able to quit my job and get on with my online venturing full-time. At that moment, I can scale up my existing projects and also focus on doing SEO for them. That's when it happens. I just need to know what to do to make it happen.

Offering services [content writing, niche site creation, SEO, etc.] and making $2K a month on 168 hours (not considering the writer's block and perceived burnout; not supposed to have room for that, right? ) seems to be challenging, but I might even take that challenge up. What steps do you guys suggest I take if I was to go that route?

Everybody needs good content. How about offering an 10 buck a month membership to IMers for one article per month plus a bonus blog post (say 200 words or less)? Change the offer/numbers/bonus to fit what you think is fair and will still offer good value. Add it to your sig for advertising. Deliver it via email. Or offer a "How to write articles" course and deliver it using a free/low cost autoresponder for a no or low cost membership program. 200 sign ups and you're there.

You're right. Procrastination has been my biggest enemy sitting right next to me (and peacefully so), for the last 5 or so years. But, I've made up my mind to ignore it and actually get going and do things. I'm ready to take action. I'm just looking for a method that would work best for me.

And on this thread, I'm looking for ideas from you guys.. just to understand what options I have that I might not have considered by myself.

I agree with the above post and many other comments on here, there are tons of way to make a few bucks online and many great strategies to help you do it, pick something you like doing, study it and go for it. One of the mistakes I made when starting out was trying to learn everything, which was great but I knew a lot and done nothing with the info as I was always in educational mode. Pick it , research it and learn it and then implement it and keep going with it.

    Best of luck

I don't know what your challenges are (and I'm not asking) but I do know that if there is a real financial need you want to minimize your risk as well as get a reward from the slogging you're willing to do.

    Here's what I 'might' do.

4hrs per day weekdays - online
8hrs per day weekends - drive a cab

One of my mates paid his way through university driving a cab from Friday night to Monday morning. Not easy, but it was something he could count on.

    Just a thought.

If you are looking for some passive ways to generate $2000 a month, I can't really help you. Still looking for that myself. I'm one of those marketers who actually has to work for their money.

Consulting has worked out pretty well for me though. Done it for years part time, and recently made the switch to full time. Definitely sustainable once you get the ball rolling. You could also wind up making double or triple your target income with some hustle.

I don't know the specifics of your location, but in my area most business owners are completely clueless about advertising and marketing. They are literally praying for someone to walk through the door and say "Hey, I can make you money!"

Take your strengths and package them into a unique selling proposition and market yourself daily.

Good luck, whatever route you take.

It sounds like you have crossed the threshold between success and failure, realizing you are going to have to work.

The main advice I could give you is to pick what you want to do, then forget all other distractions and just work as long and hard as you can.

I think you stand a good chance of making it, as you have stopped chasing a dream and started to fight for a reality. That change of mind-set cannot be valued highly enough.

    Cheers,

Build a good squeeze page and get yourself signed up to an autoresponder such as aweber. Build a list man the money is in the list. Most people do not buy on their first view but rather seeing something a few times. I am not going to go into fine detail because it is very easy to research this and get yourself going quickly. Good Luck

Here is what I would do to get started....From Scratch....

    Find a Profitable Niche

There are many profitable niche based on what you are already doing. Article Marketing, SEO, Niche research etc.

Once you got a niche you know people would pay for, do this

    Build your foundation
This is where you build your system. The money is in the list...therefore, your business will revolve in your list. It is going to be your main source of income.

    - Get hosting (hostgator)
    - Domain (choose a SEO friendly one) (Namecheap)
    - Autoresponder (ImnicaMail, Aweber, Constant Contact etc)

    - A freebie (You can write a short 7-10 page report, audio, video series to give away)
    - Squeeze Page (Your most important page)

once you build the foundation....go here

    Create your own product

Here, you create the 2 different products your subscribers are likely to buy. First one price it at $7 - $10. Do it to build a buyer list.

Second product could be your main product....Higher value and meant for upsell.

    Create your sales page
I usually will create 2 sales page. one for One Time Offer (after someone opt in) and one at regular price...where you send them notification every week or twice a month...

    Build your list like crazy
You know the drills. PPC, ad swaps, solo ads, article marketing, link building....Do all these just to send traffic to the squeeze page.

    Rinse and Repeat
Once you get hold of how it work.....Do it on a new niche...improve on the existing system and then outsource....

I have to agree with the many responses here...find one thing, get good at it and hit it hard; learning, experimenting, testing, tracking... since you are already good at content writing services, offer yourself out there as a freelancer. Or, as it has been said, create your own product and then market that. Find out what people need---and then deliver that to them. Best of luck to you! ~Joy~

I'm in Direct Mail Marketing and I have a lot of notes from people
I know personally who are or where in the game and...

    these are VERY wealthy people.

I'll give it to you for free to look over to see if your interested in
    pursuing it.

In MY opinion, Direct Mail is 50x easier to do. FAR less stressful
than online marketing. Why? Things change so quickly online it's
enough to give you grey hairs trying to keep up.

Direct Mail. IT's simple. And, it's been around for decades before
    I discovered.

It's incredibly flexible. The catch is...

it WILL cost you time and a good amount of money upfront to get
going with it. That's the trade-off and, most people run away from
it because they think that FREE SEO, FREE article marketing, FREE
"everything" means you will make MORE money because you keep
    more.

And, theoretically it SOUNDS good (even true), but it can cost you
far more in time AND money in the long-run -- and there's always a
possibility you can have your FREE marketing methods pulled for
    ANY reason at all.

So, YOU decide how much risk you want to take on now, and if it
doesn't bother you like MOST people...you'll be hugely rewarded.

All you need is the right information and tools to get started, and
you can kick some serious ass.

Hello, you look like you know a lot of different things, so. Create a couple of free eBooks (they don't have to be big, 10-15 pages) do 3-4 WSO or use your SEO skills to create a list and afterward sale some specific eBooks about what you know. Thing about cheap and a lot of sales instead of expensive and not so many sales. People like cheap (don't forget that cheap don't mean not quality) and they will tell their people about cheap things, then you will create your name at your niche.

you said you are ready to do the hard work to earn $2000. Now this is achievable but you have to discover a system that works. I had access to about 3 wso with strategies that can guarantee that sum after the first or second month.
You need to know that your website can make money if it is front of the right people. So if you affiliate and can work your way to google 1st page, you are sure to make money. Alternatively, you can create a list by giving out freebies. once your list gets to 500, send out a blast, that'll make you some good money.

If you are starting from scratch, you need domain and hosting money($20). Find a hungry market and target keywords with relatively low competition (with at least a 100 searches daily). Then post some high quality content to your website. After that you need to start backlinking-forum post, articles, blogs, web 2.0 and the like.
Seek out high page rank sites and try to back link. Build a solid backlink with high pr sites plus others.
Check where competitors are getting their links from and do the same (you might need market samurai here)

It requires you to work hard at it and be focused. soon you will start to see results. You can outsource if everything is overwhelming.
