Warriors, please be careful this holiday season.

To mods: I know there is a forum category for off-topic discussions, but I believe this is a message that really must be seen by as many people as possible. Please this thread if you feel it is inappropriate...

This is a heartfelt message from a friend to another.

The holidays are already here, and marketer have been quick to start sending out their "season's greetings" and best wishes for 2009 - which conveniently come with a 90 day guarantee ...

But there is another message, far more important, that I believe must be shared with as many people as possible.

This holiday season, please, be careful.

A few minutes ago I received a message telling me that one of my friend had a car accident yesterday. An innocent, stupid accident.

Around midnight he received a call from his girlfriend. A girl that he had just started dating one week ago, after spending 2 years trying to come up with the courage to let her know how much she meant to him.

She was in distress, and out of fear for what she might do if she was left to herself, my friend took his parent's car and went out to pick her up.

Maybe it was the high level of stress he was through, his lack of experience driving in the canadian winter, or a combination of many factors, but on the way back the car started sliding on black ice, and my friend lost control of the vehicle.

He survived the accident with 6 broken ribs. His girlfriend did not.

Her family will now have to spend the holidays mourning their daughter ...

There is not much I can do to console my friend, since I moved to the other side of the planet, but to help spread this message and hopefully help prevent additional loss of human lives.

So please, this holiday season, be careful.

  • Amen to that.

Between the partying, the long drives, and everything in between, just be careful in general.

Money isn't real, George. It doesn't matter. It only seems like it does.

    That's right Chris.

We often hear about the wrongs of driving under the influence of alcohol, but let's not forget that stress or lack of sleep also account for many deaths on the road.

Your family will forgive you if you arrive to the party one hour late, or if you leave one hour early.... so please, everyone, be responsible.

Alex I am really sorry to hear this. I will keep all of you in my prayers. This also made me realize how important it is to drive carefully and take your time also. People now a days are always in a rush. Thanks for this post.

This is an incredibly sad story for your friend who just started to experience the joy of finally being with the girl he loved, and for the parents who must make it through Christmas without her. I hope the best for your friend, and for everyone else affected by this very untimely tragedy!

    Meilleurs voeux Alex!

Thanks everyone for their support and best wishes. I'm taking the day off from IM today as I definitely do not have the mind set to get any work done, but my thoughts really go to my friend and the girl's family.

The best we can all do is help spread the word around us and try to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future...
