How To Promote a .ru

Hi,

I have a customer who wants a website to promote a caribbean island to russian people.

Any idea on how to promote a the website to russians?

    In Cyrillic, presumably . But seriously, I believe Google AdWords now target Russia. That might be a good place to start.

    spearce000 is right in suggesting using Cyrillic. There will be greater trust for Russians reading in their native language so whichever route you go down then I would suggest using that.

    Other than that the same techniques apply as for any other site. Build credibility by posting on Russian forums, usergroups and places where they socialise.

    Don't forget that aside from Russians, many people from the former Soviet Union also speak, or at least understand, Russian. So, unless there's a good reason why your client would only want to target people from within Russia, you can reach millions more people by using the Cyrillic script rather than the Roman one.

    It would be the same as promoting an usual site. In addition, I suggest you build a Russian site which may affect more Russians.

    .ru domain name doesn't change a thing, it's still the way you promote your normal site only that this time, you target only russians
