the Biggest ASSET an internet marketer could have!

I believe the biggest asset is your own list.

Why?

It's traffic you own!

You don't need to buy traffic through advertising or affiliates. This is totally your traffic and you don't need to rely on anyone else to get it.

You can become JV partner.

People will be banging down your door giving you business.

You can analyse the list whenever you want.

You can analyse your list, dividing it, targeting and segmenting it, and get the valuable information and ideas for future offers.

Foot in the door.

If you deliver value to your list, they'd be well pre-sold and more likely to purchase your recommendations.

Make money on demand!
The money is in the list. What more do I need to say?

Do you agree?

    Totally agree Li.

The money really is in the list and you have a real opportunity to capture your audiences attention and trust through effective mailings to your list. Just make sure you don't spam or bombard them constant advertising offers.

Integrity is a character trait, not an asset.

As for the list, it depends on the list, obviously. Exclusive rights to a product or other intellectual property may be much more valuable than a list. I'd gladly trade all my lists for the patents on the iphone.

We'll have to disagree. I consider many character traits to be assets (or in some cases, liabilities).

I absolutely agree on the character traits being assets.
You can have a list, but if you dont look after it or do anything with it then its pretty worthless even if you try to sell it.
Just look at how many people have had lists for a long time yet dont make the $$$ compared to those that dont have a list and yet make more $$$$$$ very quickly.
Why because of their character , they believe in themselves or their product, they have drive, determination and they take massive action and do whatever it takes.
Other people can have lists, all the software and tecchie stuff going yet without the asset of a strong character they dont get that far.
So to answer targetted knowledge and self belief are the biggest assets you need, the OP didnt mention it had to be financial so....else it would be a big pot of available cash to spend testing and tweaking

LOL I have seen too many forum posts disintegrate into arguments about the English language, rather than the opinions or the facts at hand.

For example, yesterday, someone argued with me about the meaning of 'tool'. I just didn't want to waste time answering that person.

List are great, but in some markets list are useless such as those solving an immediate 1 time problem, so in that case I'd say either your website or your product depending on the situation.

Your best assets depend on the niche.

Let's not talk about personal trait but plain business in financial sense.

It's true that a list is a great asset. However, it's just one part of the power of contact, which also includes forum PM, telephone, home address etc.

Yes, it certainly is all about establishing yourself as an expert in their eyes, so they trust you when you recommend a product for them to buy

It is all about finding that balance where you aren't selling them too hard, but you aren't afraid to sell to them either!

A list is not really an asset unless you know how to connect with them. I would say the biggest asset that an IMer could have is the ability to actually make that connection.

The connection is the secret sauce that separates good marketers from great marketers.

The good news is that it can be learned although it is innate in the best ones.

Your Head: Easily your most important asset, by far
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[317789].message }}
    • As an Internet marketing seller of many items and ebooks for the past near 10 years online, I realize the most important thing we have in marketing, is how creative are minds our. How well we think and react to changing times as marketing sellers.
In a way it's like playing a huge board game, and seeing who's the best.
      It's better than Monopoly.

By knowing how to sell and how to create a mass drawing interest in a product, and and to sell a product in high demand are all solid keys of selling.
But great sellers go far beyond these keys and become supersellers.
The reason I think is it becomes a game maybe even more than it is about getting rich.

Example - take 2 sellers with the same product, a great seller, is like a great writer, and a person who understands how to get into the minds of the people he is selling to.
A great seller is very cunning and can see the whole picture better than anyone else in the world.
A person like this can make you believe that buying from him, your product is far better than his competitions product( yet they are the same product),he'll even make you far more happier to buy from him, and it's the same product his competitiion is selling.
Why.....because he reads people better than anyone around.
He knows what people really think and how they will respond and act to his ad write ups.

A great seller is like a KING amoung sellers.
He know no one can beat him, because he puts the whole selling puzzle together in a way that know one else can see. So no one can beat him.
Yes they call him the guru.
But really he's the champion seller.

Umm, you're on the right track, but you're overlooking something - Lists don't just pop up in your database or autoresponder accounts. You still need to spend money and/or time/assets to acquire a list.

So sure, it can pay for itself over and over if you do it right (which is a whole subject in itself) but I don't agree that a list is "free traffic". You still need to get the list from somewhere in the first place, and believe me, it takes work and/or money to do so.

You need to say that although the money is in the list, you still need to spend money (or time, assets etc) acquiring the list. The money is in the NET PROFIT you make in the list after you've earned back your costs acquiring the list.

I consider my biggest asset to be MY MIND.

Without it, my lists would be useless. I need my mind to know how to generate money from my list.

I won't discuss my second biggest asset, out of modesty.

      Hey Paul,

I'd love to know how your second biggest asset helps with your marketing? Are a lot of your customers lonely women? lol

I totally agree that your mind surely has to be your biggest asset. Looking at assets that aren't a part of your body however I do agree with you Li.

A responsive list is possibly the biggest asset you can have in the IM world.

You just have to be able to build this responsive list in the first place don't you! That is where your mind comes into play!

You must have a system and your system must be fueled with hard work and persistence.

Any system will work if you stay focused. No matter how good a strategy is, if you don't use it and stay on the path, you'll get to nowhere.

I would say having good relationships with successful internet marketers is your biggest asset. Your list comes second (which you can build on from these relationships).

Just imagine internet marketers like Allen Says, Mike Filsaime, Willie Crawford, Frank Kern, Jeff Walker, Eben Pagan and Obama Barack are buddies with you.

Hell, you'll be sorted whenever you release a product/service.

Well, I wouldn't consider having a 1,000,000-list-owner friend as a better asset than owning that list myself and having a personal relationship with them
