Social marketing needed for success in internet marketing these days?

I have been sticking to my old ways alot, and that is focusing on building blogs and traditional article marketing. But I am beginning to see that social networks can get far better results. I'm just wondering has anyone here replaced their traditional article marketing with social network marketing?

  • I can't talk specifically about article marketing but I wouldn't recommend you to replace it with social networking. You might get more traffic from social sites but that often converts a lot less. With an article you also get a backlink or two each time it gets published. Yes, if your stuff is great bloggers from those social sites could pick it up and link to you but that is rather unlikely, just as it is less likely to have your article be redistributed by someone else.

I think social traffic has it's place but it depends on the niche. It has to be something "cool" or unusual, something funny or odd. Something that people like to talk about or show their friends.

That makes sense, but isn't there a multi step process for utilizing this type of traffic?

Social Media is not a "requirement" to be successful with IM. Maybe in the future, but definitely not right now.

I think that you need to do both. Article marketing is a great way when used correctly as is social marketing. There is no need to replace one with the other.

I was just at an SEO meeting at the MGM Grand last night and someone brought up the "twitter is useless, 85% of tweets not read blah blah blah"

I have made twitter instructional videos (and have sold many) that go over the undeniable mathematics of why Twitter is the BEST marketing tool out there PERIOD.

      A basic rundown.

Make a half dozen "fan" twitter sites all pointing to different URLS.

Target a few hundred (300) per day on each account.

I have seen a 1/3 follow back to GOOD targeted people.

Most of these 1/3 check out your profile and follow the url in your profile.

ALL 1/3 get your ONE email you get to send out (join socialoomph to set this up, well worth the 29.95 a month)

And after you set up your 30 or so automated tweets (again with oomph or hootsuite) STAGGERED every 30 hours or so, more hits roll in....

Let's not even talk about the rewteets spreading your automated tweets out even further

NOTHING can compete with this, PERIOD

As others have previously stated, why not use both? Traditional and social networking targeting methods can get you a lot of traffic if you use it right.

I agree to use both. I certainly wouldn't give up article marketing to replace with social marketing, I would do both.

Social marketing can work but article marketing is still the most effective I think.

Doing both is definitely an option. The problem that most people have is that they take on too much and don't do either social marketing well or do a good job of steady backlinking. Personally, if I were starting a new site, I would go heavy on the social aspects that provide backlinks.

Blog commenting, the social "whitehat" way, and guest blogging are good examples that will get you backlinks. Social bookmarking, Facebook and twitter can all provide traffic and some additional backlinks. But you don't want to get wrapped up in these, and you want to be sure that you are helping others promote their connect.

Social marketing can be a nice trendy addition to your traffic sources. But make sure you still have the time to do article marketing and link building as search engine traffic is the steady source of traffic among all.

Philosophy lesson #89: THE TOOL BOX

We all carry one, and as our knowledge grows we see the need and use of a different tool. To say one tool is better than an other is simply the lack of awareness in the "SPORT" of online marketing. Begin with the basics tools, learn to master that tool. Then as our knowledge and skill grows we add a new tool. Learn to master that tool. Then as our knowledge and skill grows we add a new tool.

This is how our tool box grows in any field we apply ourselves in.

Guest blogging can bring alot of traffic if it is done right, the problem is convincing reputable blogs to work with you. It is definitely worth it though if you can get even one of them to agree.

Videos are great and there are many ways to repurpose the content of the videos into articles, blog posts, etc., if you prepare a transcript of the video. For now it's still key "words" that are searched.

Do both, use your social networks like Facebook as a medium to introduce people to what you do, assuming your friend adding is targeted e.g. they are interested in the area you are promoting. Post your content up there for all to see, this will help in driving traffic to where you want it to go.

The thing that I like about social marketing is that it involves real people, who know us and trust us. Marketing to them would be a lot easier than marketing to strangers. I am specially refering to facebook. We can insert video, voice or links easily and it gets viral quite fast. So, in a way we are connected to the 450 million users. Ans who knows, we might be the next millionaire.

I owe much of the succes, to a page like this.. Social Networking Riches Thank God!! I saw a page like this few months ago...

The thing is that with article marketing there is no process, you have to be more formal. With social marketing you can draw people in and sell them on your ideas, which will lead to sales down the line.

I think you need all aspects of Internet Marketing in your tool belt. Social Media has been huge for me, I have over 100,000 followers/friends/connections on Twitter/Facebook/YouTube/LinkedIn. Have written over 100 articles and get traffic from traditional Article Marketing strategies but also send them out to my Social Media following. You need both...brand yourself as an expert in your industry and write your ticket for life with Internet Marketing...

In Internet marketing, there is a need to be strategic: The basic must always be there no matter the new thing out.Although one may need to fine tune the basic to appeal to the latest trend. I think article marketing is basic in drawing a long term traffic, An article written long time can still bring residual traffic. It will not be the best to replace article writing with social sites. They both need to compliment each other. I will suggest twitting your articles and providing link to it in face book. This will eventually lead to traffic explosion and of course it will give your follower in the social sites good content to chew.

Nothing in IM is *needed* for success. It's all about what works for you.

I've been dabbling in social stuff of late, and it's not all equal. StumbleUpon, for instance, will provide loads of traffic - but it converts very poorly. Reddit, on the other hand, has been providing me nice bumps of traffic, that tends to convert very well. That may not be true of all niches, though.

I can imagine the traffic you get from those 100.000 followeres beats whatever traffic you might get from all the article directories combined.

According to my point of view, article marketing can not be replaced with any other strategy like social marketing. article marketing gives more advantage while introducing the product or creating the brand for your product. social media is the perfect marketing way for services sector. buyer of a product are not available on social media but for high involvement products people first search for related articles and then go to buy it.

I would not suggest you forget about article marketing, just also do it together with social networking to promote your site or product. Both of them will work better.
