Hey there,

Got a little question!

One of my site is on a blogger blog! It receives sth like 500 views a month, I haven't worked much on it but want to ramp things up now. I has an awber opt in on it but I am just wondering if it would not be better to use a wordpress instead even though it gets some views right now... The blog has been up for more than a year.. just wondering if I should continue using it or choose a platform that is "mine" and not google's!

Any thoughts?

500 views a month is just too less. Try creating more useful content. Moving to WordPress will give you more control but that will not flood your site with traffic. If you are willing to work, move to WordPress. Else, simply use an SEO-optimized blogger template (you can find a few of them on my blog Specky Geek | Blogging Tips, WordPress, SEO & Make Money Online).

    • If you ask any expert they would always say that you should host your own blog it gives you apublic identity on the internet. Shared identities are not good because there are two levels of compettion

      1. Many blogs are hosted on blogger you have to compete with them
      2. Compete with other sites hosted on Google

When you have you blog hosted on your domain the SEO work becomes easy and you can manage thing better.

I would suggest you go to self hosted blog, place a header ad on your existing blog and try to direct your visitors to the same. This is also guide opportunity to build your subscribers, if you have loyal visitors you would see them moving to your new location quickly

Hey also note that 500 visitors is not great but beleive me in IM every visitor is worth a fortune.

Blogger allows you to have your own domain name, but SEO still remains an issue.

There is more to this question than you might realise.

What you need to decide is the purpose of your blog. If it is simply personal musings and thoughts then blogger is very good. I actually like the simplicity of blogger.

If however you are running a business then I would move the site to a self hosted blogger site or a wordpress site.

You need to be in control. I know an offline business whose blogger blog was removed as spam. It took 4 months to get it back up. I then transferred to wordpress.

Self-hosted Blogger was withdrawn last March, sadly. Blogger no longer supports FTP, and all those brilliant self-hosted Blogger blogs are now a thing of the past. Which really is bad news.

So the thing to do, really, is to transfer the site to self-hosted Wordpress. And for those who don't want to pay for hosting, byethost.com is ideal.

As Ken says above, you need to be in control.

If you really worry about google and you really value your blog then switch over to wordpress so you can be at peace. Having Wordpress is so much different than blogger because you are in control.

You should switch over to the Wordpress platform. It is much more user friendly as well as SEO compatible.

Well using wordpress is better in my opinion when it comes to SEO it's better then blogger platform, we can expand our WP blogs with available plugin to help us on SEO thing, which we can not do this on Blogger Blogs, i leave bloggers and transfer my site to WP blogs long time ago.
