Will an SSL Cert and trust seal help me convert?

Thing is I have a sales page with sales buttons on them, so that when someone decides to buy from me they click the button and get taken straight to paypal... then get emailed the product via ejunkie. I don't collect credit card info or personal details.

This leads me to think that I don't need ssl certs, trust seals and the like, BUT on the other hand having that stuff may increase sales.

So, given that I don't actually collect personal info will ssl or trust seals help me convert more you think?

That stuff is pricey!

Paul, if you are using PayPal you often do not have to get an SSL cert, but many shoppers are now trained to look for the https session on an online store and that is when you get into a secure session. So an SSL cert could be valuable for that. In regards to trust seals, there are many out there and they do different things. I am not allowed to post links in this response but check out our KikScore blog and we have some posts on the differences between the various trust seals. Check us out and feel free to tweet to us at @kikscore and we will get you a discount or a free trial for our KikScore trust seal that helps you take information about yourself and your website and lets you display that to shoppers so they can see you are trustworthy and reliable.

    Hope this helps.

Kikstore IS right, unfortunately. The SSL session is needed ONLY when collecting private info, but many "experts" don't make that distinction.

LIKEWISE, most trust seals are a SCAM! SOME are TOTALLY worthless, and some only cover what the SSL certs do. It is a little known fact that the SSL cert saus that the site is right, and on the right system, and certified by a 3rd party. GRANTED some only check via the system checks and a phone call, but some ARE more thorough. Still, it shows you aren't a fly by night.

At least one trust seal CLAIMS to validate your back end security but that is ironic! You have to BREAK security to let them see you are secure? RIDICULOUS!

I dont think having your own ssl would make much of a difference.
You are making a secure payment through paypal ssl anyway.
What can make a massive difference is the way you layout your website.
The look of it is super important. Do split testing to see if you sell more with a few changes.
    The actual content.
    Hope thins helps.

As many have already said, an SSL isn't really going to help in getting visitors to trust you, at least not as much as other elements such as; linked verify badges, testimonials, a good quality design etc.

SSL certificates are designed to parse information securely anyway, not to make a website look credible.
