How much is a list worth?

Lets assume that you have a high quality list. All the subscribers trust your brand and they have willingly subscribed to your list. You send out email every 3 weeks.

How much would you guess that list is worth per subscriber if I only sell solo ads?

Or to rephrase the question: How much can I charge for solo ads to a high quality list?

I have heard numbers like 1 USD for every email and subscriber but it sounds like a very high number.

It depends on how much money you actually make from your list each time you email them. If you get 500 clicks per mailing but hardly anyone actually buys the item then it will be worth A LOT less than a list with 200 clicks and lots of them buy the item.

IMHO: Look to the future, don't be a dinosaur
    • Email is slowly dying due to too much spam, and Social Networks are taking over.
    • Email will still exist, but filters will improve even more, squeeze pages will be less effective, more savvy users will give you their garbage (secondary) emails.
    • Lists will lose their value, it is time to look in new directions.

I do believe though that you might have a point here, but because of this I would be extremely grateful for some kind of solid numbers to count with.

OK, I'll try to do a better job of actually answering your question:
The value can be called "similar to Real Estate", meaning there are many factors, and several of those are difficult to verify without the threat of being cheated by a scammer.

        In one sentence:
        • (Similar to Real Estate) Your list is worth whatever price you can convince a person to pay for it.

        It is subjective (period)

I agree.. Nobody knows how much a list is worth unless you try and see how much money you can make through your offer and more record of buying behavior depending on many factors.

I've been online too long, I'm going to accept your 'positive feedback', and get out of here.

Of course you can say that it depends and thanks for your answers but that is usually done by people who actually have no idea. For example me, I have never done email marketing so if someone asked me I would say that it depends on a lot of things. But as in all businesses I am sure that it exists some kind of key figures.

What is the average price when buying solo ads? If that is to general then what is the range of prices? What is the difference in price for each factor that you can give the advertiser?

I have been searching for these numbers for a few days now without any result so I believe that this thread has a place on this forum.

How could you possibly setup a business plan without calculating a value from your list? I cannot just write down a random number it could potentially bring my business to bankruptcy.

What you might want to do is find a mid-priced affiliate product, write up a solo ad for it and see how much money it makes you

    You can then either:

Charge 75% of the full product pice. This will give you the max price per mailing but will limit the number of people (affiliates will not be able to afford it)

Charge 40% of the product price, which would allow affiliates to advertise.

These numbers are just rough guesses and ultimately supply and demand should dictate your price. Start lower and increase your price to match demand.

You need to run a test or 2. Send an email with an example of the kind of solo ad you will be offering and see what the open, click, and conversion rates are. I suggest running at least 2 tests, one with a product at a higher price point and one at a lower price. Ideally, maybe a third at a middle price point. Now you have actual numbers to help sell your ad space, not assumptions.

If you look in the JV section on this forum you will find that most people advertising spots on their list give details about how many clicks an advertiser can expect. This will determine how much someone is willing to pay most likely

It really depends on if it is a prospect list or a buyers list. You can charge much more for a buyers list because all of the people on it have proven that they will pull out their credit cards if the right offer is placed in front of them.

I think that it is worth:
    -People X % likelihood to buy/effectiveness

You could have 1000 people and only 2 buy or you could have 10 people and 2 buy. It really depends.
