is this search rank good?

Im working on my first website, and i have not started doing and real SEO strat. yet. my site is a small WP site i will monetize with adsense. i have a google search rank of 104 in a 33,000 global search keyword. i was wondering if that was a good starting place? and what is the average starting place that you usually get?

    104 is an excellent start if you have not done any seo. I remember a quote from Brad callen who said that once you break the top 100 you are in the game.

    That said however, it's the top 10 that you should be looking at. Sure you might be able to move up 70 points, but your traffic may still be minimal. Big jump in traffic from page 2 to 1. You need to look at your competition on the first page. How many links do they have, how old are their domains, Page Rank (although I'm not so sure this is a big a deal anymore). Can you do the same or better?

    it looks like all the sites on the first and second pages are general sites. not focused on the topic. but seem to have authority. im not sure how hard it will be to get pass them. id really love to see my first dollar some this month.

    That sounds like a good place to start, but it's also important to work out what the average cost per click is for your keyword. Ideally you want to be going after something that is going to earn well for you if you are going to take the time to SEO the site.

    That is a great point! this site is really a test for me. i wanted to see what all is involved in IM of a niche site. im not quite sure if i chose the correct niche or not. because after i joined WF i see people talking about 500-1000 search keywords as their usual target. i think i might have started too high? but then again google adwords keytool shows little to no competition.. so i guess we will see
