Facebook Advertising resources?

I'd like to try a little PPC Facebook advertising, but I'd like to go in with some idea of what I'm doing so I don't just throw my money away. Can anyone recommend any good resources on setting up and running Facebook PPC campaigns?

I'd start with the basics. Facebook has a section on how to start, here:
    Advertising | Facebook

Also here is info about using ads in concert with a Facebook Page:
    Pages | Facebook

I admit I'm not experienced in Facebook ad campaigns, although I have several Pages that I am an administrator of. The basic formula as I see it is similar to any other internet marketing, with a few twists. You create a Page (analogous to creating a website) with good keywords in the name corresponding to your niche, and you build up the Page with interesting links, photos, videos, and written content and notes. You set up a landing tab on the Page with a nice large clickable graphic or even an embedded video. Facebook uses its own markup language, FBML, to do this kind of thing, so if you're not familiar with this kind of coding, you can submit your designs or an outline to an expert. There is a WSO here in which a guy is offering to set up and design static FBML pages for $99, if I recall correctly.

Then, you get your friends to join, and ask them to share your page with their friends. You can then buy Facebook ads that link to your Page once you have some members. One pitfall is that you can't expect people to immediately go to your website from the Facebook Page (people don't want to leave Facebook right away once they're there), so you have to keep them busy and interested on the fan page. Interact with their posts to the page as the page admin.

Post messages to the page's wall a few times each day (but don't overdo it), and ask questions in some of those posts to make it interactive ("Charlie Sheen just said [x] today. Do you think he's beyond hope at this point?"). Make sure to post inside those threads to show you're involved and listening. Then you have to entice them to get off Facebook to head to your blog or site where you can use a squeeze page with a free offer if it's appropriate for the niche, or have some good niche affiliate offers that you advertise with a personal touch on the landing page. This last step is probably the toughest thing, since it's somewhat hard to get people to leave Facebook for something that might be more boring. But if you build up a base of a lot of fans, with a lot of interaction, you'll gain their trust.

I have heard that marketing on Facebook is tougher in many ways than in other online venues. But do engage in some research to see how others have succeeded. I found a ton of articles about how to use FBML to build a business Page when I did a "FBML" search in the big G. Several videos, too.

Ah crap, my links won't go through until I've posted a few more times.

That first one is: www . facebook . com / advertising

The second one is: www . facebook . com / pages / learn.php

Both are pretty simplistic, but they're a start.
