What do IM'ers REALLY Want to Know?

I saw a thread on another forum that asked this question.

It was a real interesting thread, but I thought I'd come over to WF and see what the real IM'ers think (blatant pandering ).

But seriously - What IM related information would you like to see in a blog, ebook, etc., or what info do you think every beginning IM'er really needs to hear?

Just like to hear your thoughts - I'm trying to improve my IM blog.

Push button software that instantly puts money into my bank account.

Actually, pushing a button is a bit much.

Just need money in the bank account.

The button would be the wrong color, or shape, or dimension.

...people would find ways to ask for refunds.

I'm working on some thought-controlled software that will circumvent the need for a button

This entire site is a testament to what IMers want. You'd do well to study every section carefully, especially the WSO section along with Warriors For Hire and the Classified section. Those are forums where people are willing to pay for what they want. What better proof could there be? Good luck.

I want to see you grow and progress as an IM'er, while detailing BOTH your struggles and successes in complete transparency.

Unfortunately, most IM blogs fail because this takes time. Most end up just cutting corners, and in a lame attempt to brand themselves as someone who "knows what they are talking about", succumb to the hype and sensationalism around them. I've looked, with disgust, on many bloggers/IM'ers who have openly lied and deceived their audience with fabricated earnings.

If you are new, your blog needs to demonstrate a sincere and genuine progression. Few immediately earn $100 a day, and if someone claims to do that, I'm of the believe that their blog should be approached with skepticism.

I want to know where socks go.

You put two socks on in the morning. You wear two socks all day. You put two socks in the laundry basket at the end of the day.

Come laundry day, you put 14 socks in the washer. They get washed and then you throw them in the dryer.

Many times, you'll take 14 socks out of the dryer but, sometimes, you'll take 13 socks out of the dryer.

Where'd that other sock go? It's not in the washer. It's not in the dryer. It's not in the lint trap. It's not on the floor. It's not between the washer and the dryer.

        Where did it go?

That's what I want to know.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

This is one of the major things I struggle with - It's the old 'resume' conundrum - can't get a job without a resume, can't build a resume without jobs.

The problem is, I refuse to begin my relationship with my readers by lying to them right off the bat. However, I worry that no one will take me seriously when I haven't made any money in IM. I would never take driving lessons from someone who never successfully drove a car.

I guess there's no great answer to this - perhaps patience is what I lack...

Make money in another niche, use that information to teach your IM readers. If you can't make money in another niche, but still think you have something to offer, don't mention you've been successful. The world is full of poor economists, financial planners that are broke, etc., but they still provide good advice and people listen to them.

Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach...

You hit on a good one there - I've noticed that the articles, posts, etc that I've written about the technical stuff (FTP, creating subdomains, etc) seem to get the most traffic. I would gear the whole blog towards that, but there's way too many tech blogs out there already. But perhaps if I can find a unique angle...

      Definitely worth considering - Thanks!

Dan There is a theory about socks and quantum tunneling that states that socks actually tunnel to other washing machines and dryers, explaining both the disappearance of socks you own and appearance of socks that you previously did not own. However, proving this theory would require the assembling of all the washers and dryers in the Universe, marking a bunch of socks and putting them in, and then checking all the washers and dryers afterwords to see if any moved.

  • What IMer-wannabes want are automated, black-box, push-button magic systems.

Obviously we all know that that's not what they need, but it's indeed what they want.

I think the ones that don't want the push button stuff want.....

      A. An overview of the different types of marketing out there... CPC, CPA, Product creation etc. And an explanation of what each one is and what sort of work is involved in it... building sites, writing reviews etc. What sort of upfront and ongoing costs are involved.

I know when I started out I would have liked all this info available as it wasn't until I actually started on one path that I discovered all the other options.

      B. Detailed explanations and how-to's for:
      - SEO Strategies
      - Methods for getting traffic
      - Writing Copy
      - Tips for building a good blog, review site, or squeeze page
      - Affiliate programs
      - Product Creation
      - JV's
      - Building a list
      - etc etc
