Don't worry about that! If they give away a product they will do a favour for you. Why? Because these people wouldn't buy from you, but you get a subscriber.

Max, you may lose 10% of total sales (if you sell 1000s of copies... but if you don't sell that many, then people are not going to distribute that

        Hi brandonline,

It really depends on what it is that you arte selling.

Selling a downloadable product has its drawbacks. Obviously people can clone it and sell it at a cheaper price. Of course they never took the time to create it. However if you password protect it (if its a PDF) then that should make the less skillful people find it harder to clone as their own.

However there are ways to get around it as many scammers and spammers prove everyday.

You just need to ensure that you brand you product well, use references back to articles on your own website and keep it current with yearly updates.

This is the best way to handle scammers - full brand.

You can take some consolation in the fact that someone thought your product was good enough to give to other people...

This is just something you have to live with in the digital products world. The best thing you can do is made sure you have plenty of links scattered throughout the document, both links to your own site(s) and even affiliate links.

One other thing - there may be some free copies of your product floating around the internets. But it's not likely that you're losing sales because of it. In general, people who buy WSOs are not the type who haunt the freebie sites. The people who hang at the freebie sites are not likely to come purchase the WSO anyway. So in reality, maybe you'll lose a sale or two - but maybe you haven't lost any at all, because the people who will take it for free probably wouldn't buy it. They're just not the 'buying type'.

@Devid Farah is right, in some way it depends on the form of your product - .doc file? .pdf file? video file?
Also, you need to brand your product and yourself. A product with very good reputation make customers think that the product is very precious and they would not give out to other one easily.

How did you notice or find that your product was being given away?
The net is a big place and was just pondering that.

of one thing... nothing will happen.

Yes, I would too add as much branding as possible on the product and include links to my own products. Don't waste too much time on trying to protect your product. Microsoft spends gazillion of dollars to protect he's products and yet still cracks are published.

Just think how would you make money with your product if you'd give it away for free.

Great advice above and totally agree.

You can waste a lot of time trying to figure out how to protect your product.

      Ask yourself this question:

Is the time you spend trying to protect your product, going to earn you more money than creating a new product and selling that, or marketing the current one for more sales?
