I'm pretty sure some of you must've come across it before. Just wanted to share it with all you guys

  • I saw on another forum where people were arguing over whether this little girl would have made the business without first buying the topper for inspiration.

    Had the daughter not purchased the pencil topper, who knows what she would have focused on instead. I don't believe the entrepeneurial spirit dies so easily. Perhaps it would have been bookbags or earings, but regardless of what she ended up doing, you can't remove that way of thinking from anyone.

    It's rare, it's powerful and it's worth a hell of a lot of money.

      They must shift a sh*tload of products to make the money. Their products are on the low-end.

      Just goes to show what the power of numbers can do for you, and is a great lesson for those who think high ticket items are the only way forward

        Volume is what makes many businesses (especially offline ones) money. While each squishy pencil topper (I'm not even sure what that is, lol!) probably costs less than a dollar each, moving them by the thousands daily is what generates this considerable revenue.

        I just scanned through their website, and apparently what makes them so incredibly popular is the fact that each toy has an online component to it - you get a code with each squishy that lets you into an online gaming world that is interactive and probably very, very addictive as well!

          Volume is the reason behind WalMart's success as well, just on a different scale altogether.

          But then, high cost is the reason behind Louis Vuitton's succcess too.

          You can pretty much go either way - high price, low volume; low price, high volume. The key is to deliver something that is worth the price - $1 or $1000, it doesn't matter; there are plenty of buyers for both niches

      I had the same kind of skepticism when I first read it. "10 year old CEO" sounds like a terribly great marketing hook.

      Regardless, I feel this is a genuine case. We don't scoff at stories of Mozart composing symphonies at age 3, nor do we discredit child prodigies who complete university degrees at 12. So why be skeptical about an entrepreneurial prodigy?

    This is actually my plan for my daughter. I don't expect her to be a "CEO", but I do expect her to take the lead and make her own money online when she's young. She's two right now, and we plan to homeschool, so she will have time to devote to it.

    I don't care if she's successful at it, though I'm confident she will be. I want to teach my children that no one is going to look out for them in life but themselves, and that if they want to be truly wealthy, the only real way to do it is to work for yourself.

      I commend you on your dedication and foresight.

      Unfortunately in this day and age we (as a society) do not teach kids to be entrepreneurs (or at least don't do it the right way).

      Instead kids are taught to listen to the teacher (a job which by its very nature attracts risk averse people).

    I think it's better to not get lost getting inspired. There are thousands of teen millionaires, and you could spend hours and hours reading them. Or you could spend that time in something more productive.!
