Competing with Fiverr: A long story just begin

Dear Friends,

Today I open this topic as a report for my new site 4dollarjobs as a competitor with the well-known Fiverr

I have spent $99 for source code, $8 for domain, $20 for buying some facebook and twitter promotion, $100 for hosting. Total is $230.

The main idea that I decided to spend this amount of money is that:

At Fiverr: buyers pay $5, sellers gain $4, Fiverr gains $1

At my site: buyers pay $4, sellers gain $4, I gain $0

So, the same jobs, but cheaper price.

How can I live? OK, I will earn money by Adsense.

This is a very difficult starting. However, I'll follow my plan. I am ready to spend about $500 more for promoting my site.

I will report my site progression here for you all to have an idea about this way of money making.

Cheers,

      What is BHW?

Not to belittle your idea, but people aren't likely to flock to save a buck. Did you do any market research?

In my knowledge, BHW is a black hat forum and it is possible that the OP might have posted this on that forum and wf.

Sounds like a pretty decent idea, if you can promote this enough and also generate enough adsense revenue to turn a profit. I'm sure providers would love to offer services on your site if there's enough traffic/visitors there, as they don't have to give up as much revenue when compared to Fiverr!

It seems alright. I think it is very annoying how fiverr takes money away from people who provide the services although remember they will still be receiving the same amount anyway!

I've never understood this complaint. They provide a place where you can find buyers and get work - why wouldn't they be entitled to a fee for that?
Fiverr is charging a fee for their service - just as you are charging for yours.

I think it's a negative mindset when you see a fee as "taking advantage of me" instead of as "the cost of doing business with". It makes you feel victimized instead of feeling positive at the gigs you are getting through the site.

You're jumping on the bandwagon late, and I'd consider an alternative monetization method.

    Hello,
what happens if and when adsense suspends your account?
Working with only one income model is not a solid plan.

What you need to remember is that Fiverr will earn $500 guaranteed for every 500 orders they receive. It's a win win situation. You are depending on people clicking an advert if they can't find what they are looking for on your site, let's face it if someone finds a gig, they are most likely to click off the site, order completed. I seriously doubt whether adwords is the right method to monitize your site. If your site is successful, and I truly wish you well, you are leaving an awful lot of money on the table from not collecting revenue from orders.

I wonder if you're not missing something here.
You have the resources to build this type of site but
you'r going to copy an idea and work for nothing.
Didn't all the guys that copied Henry Ford's idea
change it a little, add in a few more advantages
give it a different brand name and sell it for a profit.
    mmmm.
