Making money with a paid newsletter - hot or not?

Hey Warriors,

I just found out today about this website called letter.ly which is basically a platform for publishing email subscription newsletters.

I'm curious if anyone has tried it or anything similar and what are your thoughts on it. Also, how would you go about creating a paid newsletter using such a site (pricing, niching the newsletter, promoting it etc.)?

I got pretty enthusiastic about this because if I could get a decent list of subscribers to a paid newsletter, I'd make a decent monthly income just from this. And I think I can write good enough content to make people wanna pay a few bucks for it each month.

Hmm, I think it would be hard to get a lot of paying customers, considering how many free newsletters are out there. You'd have to provide something very unique and powerful, I reckon.

A 'paid newsletter' is really the same as a 'paid membership' site, with a few slight differences.

And yes, if you can get enough monthly paying customers it is a very good system to go with.

I know a fellow webmaster who has created a website dedicated to backstage rumors in the world of professional wrestling. He runs a newsletter (known in the industry as a "dirt sheet") and the only way to get the weekly newsletter is to pay $7 odd a month.

He has more than 2,500 subscribers.

So there are probably a hundred other niches where this "concept" works in and works very well.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

There are people making a killing with paid newsletters. The key ingredients are: a highly targeted niche topic and superb way of generating prospects and subscribers. I can tell you that I pay a monthly subscription to two or three newsletters, neither of which are in the IM niche.

I agree and I think newsletter is a good way to add to your monthly income. I'm pretty sure you can make a few bucks writing a good content each month too but I guess it's just the setting up part and why some would switch from free to this one. Good luck!

I'm positive I can write very good content. The trick is to convince others and get them to subscribe. I suppose my blog is the best platform for this right now. It's a good demo of how I think and the quality of content I write.

Those of you who pay for a newsletter, what kind of content do you get? Is it just an email with good content? Or do you get links to audio, videos, pdfs and other "special" downloads too?

It really matters what content you're giving out. Earlier this month I saw a WSO about a paid newsletter. He was reviewing 1 WSO per day and sending his honest opinion about it; saying people money.

If it's something unique, powerful and mind blowing, then you'll get many subscribers. Only problem is that there are so many free ones , so it's a bit hard to come up with a great idea. Do some research, find out what people are interested in and what's untapped, and start the newsletter.
