So disgusted with writers

I just tried out another writer for 5 articles and again they suck. This guy never even bothered to read the link I sent him on the service I sell and gives me 5 articles on something I don't even sell.

Blows my freakin mind. I spent 4000 last year on articles and I can't find anyone that wants the business that is willing to do a decent job.

It's just my educated guess that you aren't paying
enough to attract a higher caliber of writer.

That is disgusting, where did you find him? Can't you ask for a refund? Sometimes it is not the money, but the integrity of doing decent work.

      Found him here on WF.
I can'y imagine why if you tell somewone you want to buy 30 to 60 articles a month they would not take the time to read the link I send them.It just makes no sense.

I write the majority of my articles myself but I need help every couple of months. My articles get 20-30% CTR.

Try paying 10 times what you normally would pay for just a couple articles.

Then if you're happy work backwards until you get articles that match up
to your needs and don't cost too much.

This is not an article outsourcing issue. You'll run into this same set of
    circumstances with whatever you outsource.

Don't expect outsourcers to change... Eliminate your frustration and
change how, what and to whom you outsource whenever your dissatisfied.

    Cheers,

Rob I've paid between 8 and $20 an article and it doesn't seem that price matters at all. I can get a great article foir 8 and a crappy one for 25. I don't think the price is a factor.

Do you give the writer a brief as to what you want.

Writing is always ones understanding of something laced with an opinion.

Good help is hard t find. Incentives bring out the best in some.

OR... you can pickup a copywriting course. (say from John Carlton)... then sit around and see the disgusting results you've been getting, get PISSED OFF... grab a beer and pound out your own articles.

It seems the money you've spend could have been better invested in yourself. (now obviously you couldn't have known this..) but now that you do... dont make the same mistake again?

It's unfortunate that you got ripped, next time make sure you to do a few things (if you aren't already)

    - read their previous work
    - Pay 50% up front and no more
    - make sure they have a refund policy

    My 2cents.

It can be very frustrating when you pay for something and you don't get what you want. I'm a writer, so it always dissapoints me to learn of someone in "the ranks" that doesn't please a client.

But this reminds me of a recent experience I had with my colorist. I told her I wanted subtle highlights. That the person who used to do my highlights had been doing them too chunky and it looked very retro. I wanted a softer look.

She did my hair and I was dissapointed to pay a lot for what I felt were very little highlights. I complained to a friend. She pointed to my head. "But she did follow your directions," she said. "They are subtle and soft." I realized I had not been specific enough.

I don't know if the writer didn't look at your link -- or you are just under the impression that they didn't look at your link. But I'm wondering what directions you gave them. Sometimes we need to examine what we are asking for -- and give more detailed information so we get exactly what we want.

As for me....I have another hair appointment in January! lol

I've worked with him before and his instructions are great, his site very informative and it's a fairly basic niche, with a twist. I won't reveal it because it's his site. Either way, I can see how some so called writers may have issues but it really isn't a technical niche or anything that should be difficult to write about.

As for WF writers, I have found a few gems, am considered by some to be a gem and have found some that blew my mind for the crap they tried to call writing.

I wouldn't get disgusted. Think of it this way. You are the manager of your company. If your employee isn't doing something right that you've asked for, just explain exactly what you need again. Maybe he didn't quite understand you the first time. I would give him/ her another try.

Take a chill pill and open communication again.

Couple of quick points. I have worked with Sylvia and she is excellent in every way. She's doing articles for me right now. They are always great.

Anarchy , You are right about the tech stuff. The articles I write on that are much better than the ones I buy but how hard is it to write 400 words about the "dangers of cyber stalkers", "Internet defamation" "Myspace stakers" and throw in a boiler plate paragraph that and emnail trace can solve all your troubles?

Or a pretty standard article on infidelity and throw in a paragraph about an online infidelity investigation?

To me it just seems like a nobrainer and obviously some people like Sylvia can do it without a problem. But unless I can get her to quit all her other projects or lure her into the pit in my basement I'm going to need some more writers.

To all the people that keep going on about refunds.....if I have to wait 3 or 4 or 5 days for a set of articles and they suck at that point who cares about the refund? Is that going to get me 5 days back? No. I have damages that far outweigh the 10 or 20 bucks for the articles. I'm out hundreds of hits and dozens of orders.

This isn't always true. I've learned that some article writers who charge peanuts pad out a word-count artificially using too many adjectives and poor sentence structure. Some will even fill out a word count by keyword stuffing. They aren't paid well enough to spend time researching. So you get what you pay for.

But there are some article writers out there who take great pride in their work and research topics thoroughly so the client is getting great value for money and will want to use that writer again.

Of course writers like this don't charge peanuts...
I should know. I'm one of them

See the issue isnt how much Ed pays me, it is more the time I don't have, he's not the only client I write for, I write for a few as well as for myself. And article marketing isnt the only thing I do either, I also have products I crete, sites to run etc. He pays well, I charge higher than most are comfortable to pay. But like I said I am not a full time article writer anymore and he needs more writers.

Its not the price, its just about finding the right writer.

Split test writers, don't give out a big job to one guy, get about 3-5 different writers to write about the same topic, then see who does a better job.

Give a second project to those who you think did well to see who is consistent. Hold on to the ones who perform well.

In my opinion in goes back to finding good quality work and believe me, it is very hard. My off line job involves computer services and you would not believe what kind of people out there claim to be able to provide computer service! In my experience I found that it takes a lot of time, patience, sharing common ideas of what quality is and of course, incentives. I once had a job that I knew I had to get. I read the job ad and it was reading just like if I was writing to hire someone. I knew right away that it would be great to work with that guy because we shared believes on how computer service business should operate. I wish I could give you A,B and C how to find the right people, it just takes time and patience. I would put up an ad on something like absolutewrite [dot] com and get people's sample and see whose quality and style is what you are looking for and then hire them. Be patient, take your time and you will find what you are looking for.

I sympathize with your dilemma. Had the same problem trying to find decent web designers on Elance and similar sites.

Only after months of frustration did I realize that most people selling their web design services literally did not know an autoresponder from an out-of-office automated email reply (seriously!).

Only solution I found was to ask others who's the best and then cough up the money.

The other part of the solution was to look for companies that do what you want and stay far away from solo operators (the caveat here is I've found great independent service providers in other areas).

So perhaps think about applying these lessons to your problem. This may or may not help, but it's where I'd start after experiencing my own outsourcing woes.

And judging by the crap that's all over the internet these days - crap in terms of content, spelling, grammar, you name it - good writers aren't easy to find ;-)

It appears that you travel between a few different metropolitan centers, all of which have numerous college campuses. If I were you, I'd make an attractive flyer, make some copies at Kinko's, and post up a few dozen in the colleges' commons areas. You might be surprised with how many talented writers there are that would do the grunt work for beer money.

I've had damn good luck with writers, and I know it.

I first use three mentally nutso (as in can't hold down a job and probably clinically insane) friends who are Ivy League educated and very literate yet will work very happily for quite cheap.

    PM for details.

They couldn't write enough for me so I also used nursewriter (here on the forum). who was also great, and can do keyword reserch very very well too.

Everyone was a tad late, but superb.

In outsourcing other areas, I've basically done very poorly -- most people apparently are flakes!
