Has Amazon become impossible to beat ?

I am unable to rank my exact match domain above Amazon. My domain has lots of good content, aged and about 1000 backlinks from diverse sources. The amazon page has 2 backlinks and obviously benefiting from its authority status.

I also noticed several good shopping websites(not EMD) in various commercial niches with 10k-30k backlinks(albeit lots of repeated backlinks) ranking below Amazon page that has ZERO backlinks.

Do you think its now impossible to beat Amazon ?

    I think it's still possible to beat Amazon but it is getting harder.. How long have you been trying?

      I bought this 4 year old EMD 4 months back. Been trying since. Was ranking just below Amazon till the G update. Now I have a couple of other big wigs above me. Like someone said I need to get a BIGGER stick perhaps :p

    I have seen sites beat Amazon with a few backlinks and pages of content and Amazon beating authority sites with high PR and thousands of backlinks.

    That's Google for you. If the market seems good enough and the site can be made profitable then just keep trying.

    It's extremely difficult to beat amazon for top-brand names. For broader search terms? It's a lot easier. I only have amazon competing with me for one product in my niche, but it's a popular one. So what I do is dominate for the broader term, rank for the specific term, and then sell on amazon so I capture some of those sales as well.
