So a few months ago I outsourced some back-linking campaigns for a site of mine. I chose 3 very competitive keywords for this niche.

I didn't give much after thought to it because I assumed..."Eh, maybe I'll get a little trickle twice a year, but there's noway I can ever compete with the major sites, shops, and affiliates for organic results."

I saw an average of 5 conversions per month come in for this advertiser, but still didn't give it much thought as 5 conversions were nothing close to spectacular.

Well today I was just going thru some of my very neglected sites. And I came across the original work order for the SEO work I outsourced. It had the 3 keywords listed. So I figured what the heck. I popped them into Google.
  • One of the keywords: My site is nowhere to be found. Ok, well just as expected.
  • Let's try the second keyword: What's this? Page 7? Well, nothing to be proud of anyway.
  • How 'bout the third keyword: Page 4?
How...whatthefu...why...whenthefu. OH crap!

If I'd checked this 4 months ago and persisted with more backlinking and pumping up the first and second tier backlinks with more backlinks, I might actually be on page 2 or dare I say...page one?

So there's a lesson learned. Don't underestimate your own cheap little site (it's a free weebly site). And don't underestimate your backlinking efforts.

Most importantly, don't overestimate your behemoth competition or the difficulty of the keyword in your niche.

That doesn't mean you should go start an SEO campaign for "lose weight" or "cheap car insurance" and expect a number one spot in a week. But there are plenty of busy-enough niches that are not overly saturated for some of the top keywords.

Anyways, I'm off to get this baby onto page 2 and above.

Great news hope you'll make it to page 1 soon. Can you recommend on some good SEO books for begginers?

If you continue to build backlink and add content, at some point, you will rank for any keyword.

Biggest mistake people make is to dump a bunch of backlinks, a one time job, and forget.

Its all about building backlinks constantly.

  • Great post. The bottom line is that if someone else can rank for they keyword then why can't you? You can rank for any keyword you want if you know what you are doing. The basic SEO methods are the same. It is just a question of how long it will take you and how much work is required.
