Anyone know the RSS refresh frequency?

Does anyone know the RSS refresh frequency for this site? It looks like it's about 30minutes behind real-time.

Is there any way to get it close to real-time aside from bugging the admin?

Refresh the "new posts" page instead of the feed. These are both expensive to provide in terms of server resources, which is why the feed gets cached rather than being served dynamically on each request.

I'm looking for an RSS feed that I can access with an RSS reader to get as close to real-time information as possible. I'm not constantly visiting the site and able to hit "refresh" on the New Posts page. I'm getting the new posts just fine, it's just that they appear to be around 30minutes behind. It's not the end of the world, but something a little closer to real-time would be ideal.

You may not be able to get real-time with the mass number of posts always taking place.

They probably have a delay in effect to prevent from a crash.

Would be good to know the fastest time you can get the data though.

The rss feed for the WSO Tracker will get you faster updates than the forum will give, but that only works for WSOs, not the main forum.

Really, there are far too many threads to follow. There is no way the RSS feed can even keep up with all of them, since it only displays the last 15-20 posts.

Hey mike, thanks for the reply.

Nice site. So how often does your RSS refresh? I like the WSO thread and that's mainly the one I point my reader to but I hate it when there's like 2-3 new WSOs listed but my reader doesn't see them yet. I typically have to wait around 30min-1hr to see them come in.

Is the refresh rate determined by the webmaster or how does that work?

Yes, the website owner determines the content of their feed, just like they determine the content of their pages. If he sets it up to cache for 30 minutes before generating a new feed, then you can poll it as much as you want, you're getting the cached feed.

My WSO Feed refreshes as soon as there is new data to put in it, so it varies.

BTW, if you want to get notifications for WSOs, you need to try out the new WSO Notifier I am testing. I should be releasing it fully next week, but you can check it out now right here: http://www.warriorplus.com/wso/notify.cfm

Well, that's what confuses me. I watched a new WSO come in and I had both the Warrior Forum WSO RSS feed up in one window and your Warrior Plus WSO RSS feed open in another. I kept refreshing them both to see who was going to win (I'm easily amused). The Warrior Plus feed DID win... by a longshot, but I still had to sit there and wait quite a while hitting the refresh button before your RSS feed picked up the new data. And by "quite a while" i'm talking 15 minutes. The Warrior forum RSS feed picked it up in roughly 30-40min.

So, help me understand how your feed is faster. I'm guessing that you have something in place that queries the WSO forum periodically and scans for new posts and then copies that info to your warriorplus site? And from there your RSS feed detects new data and refreshes on an interval that's much shorter than the Warrior forum?

          Thanks for the help
