Wordpress.com not allow ads?

Hi there,

I had been working on my first project for a month and start getting some results, i.e. it's getting to the first page of google now.

I was thinking I may be able to generate some income from this site, but I just realize that wordpress.com does not allow ads?

I was thinking to set up an actual website with the same content but I have already built a lot of backlinks to this blog, so there is no way I can change the blog address and host it somewhere else. Can someone give me some suggestions on what I can do?

Thanks

Wordpress dont allow any type of monetization if i recall it correctly, and some times people lose their blogs if they try to get profit from them.

You should had learn this lesson before putting a lot of work in a wordpress hosted blog that you planned to make money with.

Actually, you can get away with a VERY small amount of monitization in the form of a link from the side bar. But you have to be careful, even at that. Automattics idea of spammy and yours most likely are not the same.

Did you ever notice that “author” is the root of the word “authority“?

You can't monetize wordpress.com very well or they'll just delete your account. So, look at it as a strong source of links to your real site - which you now need to build.

Build a real site on your own domain. Use the same content, but rewrite enough that it's not duplicate. Then go put a link in the wordpress.com blogroll to your real site for the link juice.

When your site is up and running, just stop posting to wordpress.com and let it be good, strong links to help boost your real site.

Since you have good backlinks in place to your Wp dot com, it would be a good idea to link to a site on your own domain from thta wp dot com blog.

Putting similar articles on your self-hosted blog is a good idea and then while you are doing that, you might even be able to rearrange the content and how it is linked, if you wnated to.

Meaning no offense, your other site might already be great, but if you have the content and the links this is like a great chance to fix anything up that you might want to.

I agree that the best way to go is to create a new website on your own hosting account and then link from your wordpress.com blog to the new website. As you've already made a considerable investment in time into your existing blog, the last thing you want to do is get it deleted. In the long run, it will be beneficial to your marketing.

You should have known beforehand that Wordpress.com does not allow monetization. However, you can use Wordpress.com to create backlinks to your main money site.

My advice to you is to get a hosting account (such as Hostgator, they have a 1 cent/first month coupon) and a domain name (.com, or .info since it's only $1). Install WordPress using Fantastico. Import the posts/pages from your WordPress.com site to your new self-installed WordPress site.

I don't think you can make permanent 301 redirects on Wordpress.com so you just have to put up a notice on your old site that says "This site has moved to blahblah.com." along with the link to your new site. You will still get some link juice that way.

This is really a huge issue with new marketers...they want to start inexpensively so they go that route with free sites. Then down the line, after they've put in a ton of work to the site, it either gets removed or they realize that they should've gone with a self-hosted site.

IMO, just get a new hosted site going and put your energy into promoting that. Chalk it up to a lesson learned!

      Hey Adrian,

Wordpress does not allow ads to be placed on their website. Its part of the stipulations for them when you are posting content there.

So if you are looking to post ads as a revenue stream I would not advise it.

The best thing with wordpress is that if you have an active blog there it can give you really good backlinks as well as drive traffic back to your website.

Would that be a problem if my money site is the exact duplicate (maybe 90% the same)?
Should I turn off my wordpress so to allow my money site to come up?
For some reason my money site is not coming up in google but the rankchecker website showing that it has the same ranking as my wordpress blog.
What should I do? Delete my wordpress blog?

Before you do anything rash, go to Google itself and verify what your rankchecker website is telling you. Put in your keywords and physically verify your position.

Some folks may remember a topic from some time back, when Google started factoring in your personal search habits when presenting results. What you searched for and what you clicked on influenced what you saw in later searches.

The same thing could be happening to your rankchecker site's results, especially if you're going after long tail keywords.

I have checked google, my site is not showing up
so I'm thinking is it because google think that my site is a duplicate of the wp blog and therefore it is not showing up?
So I turn off my blog? Any advise?

You can 301 redirect your wordpress site to a new site (which means you transfer the authority that the pages on your wordpress site have built up to your new site). You should read up about how to do this properly, however.

Also, in order to do the redirect, I think you have to upgrade to their pro version first (whatever they call it). This means putting out a little cash, of course.

    Yes I read that
it's the 301 redirect that you talked about
however, I want my money site to be shown in google first page rather than my wordpress blog. If I use this 301 redirect, can it achieve this purpose? i.e. say my wp blog is ranking number 3, once I do the 301 redirect will my money site come to rank 3 as well?

Yes, that's the idea of a 301 redirect. You're telling the search engines, "Hey, I've moved this material from this domain/page over to this domain/page. Take all my links, etc., and 'redirect' them."

The truth is you may see a small decrease in your rankings at first (maybe, but maybe not), but in the end, this is the route you are going to want to take.

In any case, it's certainly MUCH better than just killing the old site. You want to keep that juice.

I just purchased the 301 redirect in wordpress.com
it cost $12 per year, I'm just wondering what will happen after 1 year?
will my money site drop back down to where it is now and lose all the backlinks built to my wp blog?
