15 year old wants PayPal account - HELP!

Hi there Warriors!

I'm 15 years old, but in this does Paypal's "User Agreement" say:

To be eligible for the PayPal Services, you must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United States or one of the countries listed on the PayPal WorldWide page. This Agreement applies only to Users who are residents of the United States. If you are a resident of another country, you may access your agreement from our website in your country (if applicable).
How can I overcome this problem? I thought of starting a paypal account on my father's name, can I get the money I make from his account to my bank account?

If you've other options, or know what to do; I hope to hear from you!
-Jelle

15 thats a bit OLD to get into IMing LOL

The best way to do this, is to sell / promote / publish under whoevers name in your family holds the PP account, you can then, after 3 years of making coin and profit get your own!

Or simply have your buyers pay sales direct into your savings / checking account :-)

I am 15 years old, and I am in IM for over 1 year and I make some good money. I've made a paypal account on my mothers name, and I run it without problems.

    It's very simple.

so if your mum's in IM, why don't you ask her? sure she'd know what to do, right? this whole thread sounds dodgy to me.

people underage talking about how they have control over a paypal account in their mother's/father's name? not good.

and at least now i know who not to buy a WSO from.

      thanks for the heads up.

Sorry for the bump. But here's the problem:

    1. I saw a WSO (HostTheName) and wanted to buy it.
    2. It can only be paid by PayPal
    3. My mom and I bot want this hosting

Can we host our sites together on the same account?

Try asking the wso owner if it's ok to host both your sites and your mom's on the same account.

If not, you can probably just buy two accounts using the same PP account. That way you would both have your own account and wouldn't be logging into the same account and accidentally changing the other person's settings.

I don't know the limitations of it, but I do know that PayPal also offers a child account which can be set up under your mother's account. I think you can be 13 to get that account. Here's an article about it: Finextra: PayPal launches teen account that lets parents track kids' spending

You can only buy things with that kind of account.

I made a paypal account when I was only 13 years old...

I did lie about my age...didn't do it under my mothers name...just varify the account with your bank account, and you shouldn't have problems...and no, paypal did not check my bank account...to see my age... That was 7 years ago...yes I was in middle school.

It pisses me off how organizations don't accept things from teens...I wanted to get a normal job...they said I was too young...I don't like mowing lawns, or shoveling snow...or doing chores....what did I do? I did a random search on google that gave me information on how to make money online...been doing it ever since... And now, within this month, I'm going to even start/own my own hosting company Only 19 years old.

Take a dumb risk with paypal...they don't check for anything...probably because they are too busy making sure the "grown ups" aren't ripping each other off...just keep your withdrawals under 500$ a month...I'm pretty sure that's 500$ more than 99.9% of the teen population makes in a month, and I'm doing it without any laborious work like mowing the dumb grass during the summer or shoveling the snow during the winter.

"so if your mum's in IM, why don't you ask her? sure she'd know what to do, right? this whole thread sounds dodgy to me." I agree a bit, ...it's okay if your mothers not into IM...don't make things up...tell the truth here on these forums and you'll get help regardless.

          Hi Agron,

I totally agree with you on the part that's in italics now. But, I don't lie about anything. My mom is in IM now, but uses it to make her business more online than offline.

The age thing is an issue because it's a legal issue, and you're entering into a legal agreement. *If* something was to happen, they'd be left holding the stick, as under 18 is not legal to enter into a contract.

That said, if you know how to make money, go for it. Get permission, track your expenditures and income, and get somebody to sponsor you. Good luck!!

Well, if you don't like it, then get the laws changed.

It's not the companies fault, all they are doing is complying with the law, which says minors cannot enter into contracts, work certain jobs, run machinery, whatever have you.

Here's the great thing: If you can convince others to your way of thinking, laws can get changed.

          Don't complain, campaign.

They don't accept things from ADULTS EITHER!!!!!! HECK, they probably wouldn't even accept things from BILL GATES!!!!!!!!!

When I signed up on paypal for paypal pro, PAYPAL wasn't allowed to do everything, so they asked wellsfargo! I have a couple accounts over there, and they STILL ran my credit!

You think banks just loan anyone money? OK, some MORONS did that for SOME people, and created the disaster in 2008 that bankrupted one of the largest banks around, and several large companies, etc.... It affected nearly every country, and MANY people's retirement accounts, etc....

How it HISTORICALLY works is that they ask for COLLATERAL, and they try to get PROOF you own it, and may place a LIEN on it! The way this works is MOST obvious with your car! They will ask for, or hold, the TITLE(So THEY own and can reposses or sell the car), and place a lien on the car, which shows up on your registration, so if it is a total loss in an accident, THEY get paid first, etc...! On a home, they do a title search, and place a lien on it in places where the mortgage doesn't constitute a lien. They ALSO generally run your credit. If worse comes to worse, they SUE!

HERE'S the rub! People below 18 are MINORS and generally can't enter contracts. So people have NO recourse. That means that you have no companies reporting, which means they can't check. AND, since you can't enter a contract you can't sign away rights, so even COLLATERAL could be questioned.

So if you can't offer them anything in return, why should THEY take the risk? That said, if you use a relatives information, you should get their permission. It is tantamount to having a cosigner on an autoloan! BTW I was OVER 18 when I bought my first car. I bought it from my COUSIN, who managed the sales department at an auto dealership. He KNEW my mother, but I guess her credit wasn't good enough. My FATHER had to cosign!

When I was about 19 or 20, I wanted tpo get a merchant credit card account. I COULDN'T! I didn't have a storefront with inventory that had 2 years of history. You don't know HOW good you have it!

So there is no issue with what the OP asked and what answers are flagging up in the thread...

It is AGAINST PP's TOS 100% to open ANY PP account using *incorrect / lied about* age details, yes you can do it and yes you might get away with it, however if a PP user is under 18 and they get flagged by the creditline systems used inhouse, PP will delete the account, if in good standing or not, then if there are any chargebacks/disputes/owed fees/blahdy blah, spend a tidy sum and lots of time *linking* other family paid out emails to the account, so you will cause issues if you LIE!

Just be safe, you might build up a really good IM business and risk loosing and being banned for life from PP, just for the sake of saving a few $ in having your *account* in a family members name until you *come of age!*

Hope that sort of helps :-)

Excellent question, Jelle! Just look at all the messes we're in thanks to the alleged superior judgment of adults. Obviously, too many of them still think and act like kindergartners!

You can do the hoop-jump-biscuit thing with your mom to pacify the bureaucrats so they can put a gold star by their names for doing the CYA thing.

I think getting those accounts in your own name is the best choice. Your mom will have to assume legal responsibility, but that's no big deal - about as earth-shattering as signing a permission slip from school so you can talk a field trip.

Good luck to you and all the other teens and 20-somethings in IM! I'm not at all suprised, just curious how you go interested in it. (That's kind of a hint for one of you to start a new thread. That has more authenticity than if I started it.)

Well, I got interested in it when *I think 3 weeks a go?* my mom asked me to come to a seminar. I thought; "Why not? Nothing to lose?" so I went with her. There they told me about making money online and I thought: Woop, that sounds a lot better than working for a boss and getting paid for each hour you work.

          So.. That's my story

And about this.. There's now money involved and I don't want to take risks. So I'm going with Mike McAleer's idea: the (shared) spreadsheet in google Docs with all the things explained.

If you are using a paypal account with someone else name, don't forget that this year (as far as I know) paypal will be sending out 1099's if you make a certain amount of money/transactions so that means the person whose name is on the account will be liable to pay taxes on those earnings. So they would probably have to pay you as a subcontractor and send you a 1099 to make up for that.

Ok, I am fed up with you. So, you think that if you are a teenager , you can't take responsabilities???

YOU ARE VERY WRONG! Yes, I am under 18 years old, and I make MORE MONEY than MANY adults from my country make.

And no, I am not stealing , I am not begging for that money, nor I cut the grass or something like this.

All I do, it's using my brain , staying in front of the pc, and doing something good for my future.

You think that if you are under 18, you can't run a business?? So WRONG.

Maybe you are jealous becaue you can't run one, and someone half your age can.

If you are under 18, this doesn't mean that you can't take any responsibilities.I hope everyone understands this.

Because you are a minor, you can't enter into contracts with Paypal or anyone else for that matter...and that is why they have the age requirement. You have two choices:

    1. Comply with the law, and get your parents to sign up for you.

    2. Attempt to skirt around it, and risk getting banned for life by Paypal when you get caught.

Trust me, you are either better off with number one, or waiting until you turn 18 years of age to sign up yourself.

I feel for you, but the law is the law, and you will be much better off if you comply with the law in the short and the long run.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you good luck.

To those of you who are admitting being underage and lying to paypal:

Paypal cruises these forums...hope you love getting banned for life.

If your mom allows, you can both share the paypal account.

You can add additonal emails and receive your payments through yourname@yourdomain.com

View all transactions, hover over "More Filters", then over "Payments received to" and select your email address and you will get a list of only your transaction.

On whatever email address your mom uses to receive Paypal notifications a filter could be added to forward anything coming in for yourname@yourdomain.com to you

Paypal will allow you to withdraw to a bank account with the same surname, so if you open an account in your fathers name, then there is no reason you can' t withdraw from/fund the paypal account from your own bank account.

Yes dislike adults , BUT really despise those with pot bellies because they will never give the young a chance.

The young MUST grow. give them a chance.
