Should You Really Enter The "Make Money Online" Niche?

First of all, by "make money online" I mean all the Internet marketing niches, including blogging, social media, SEO, affiliate marketing and so on.

The question I am asking is: should someone who is getting started online enter the Internet marketing niche directly?

If you know about "making money online" related topics, why not? However, if you know nothing or little about the topic, I don't think it is the best place to start.

The reason: If you know about, lets say, social media, you can always create a good product and start selling it here, on digiresults, clickbank... or wherever, and look for affiliates to promote it. If you are just starting out and have not enough knowledge to make your own product, I think it will be pretty difficult to start making money selling other people stuff in such a competitive niche as this one. In that case, I think it is better to start on other less competitive niches where ranking well on Google is easier.

I think that you should first make money online yourself and then sell your knowledge in ebooks or courses.

For beginners, I'm going to say Absolutely NOT! WaYYYY too much competition. In my opinion, to become profitable in the Im niche, you must portray the image of an Internet Marketing god. This can be done, but usually takes years of work to gain this status. Don't get me wrong though, there are tons of people in this niche who aren't "Gods" making decent money, but I doubt that many beginners make money in the IM niche.

On the other hand though, IM is an extremely "buyer ready" niche. Meaning people are willing to give you their wallet if you can show/help them make money online.

So I guess it all comes down to how experienced you are in a particular niche. But the main thing is to do what 95% of people don;t do......Take Action!!!

      Best of luck,
      Justin

It best not to start if you are a newbie... I would recommend a newbie to start learning how to start a blog or website first before they even think of any niche they want to make money.
Start with something they like most... such as hobbies or collection of something and then share it online once they get use to the online world then by the time they should know whether or not the Internet marketing niche is right for them...

There have been a lot of great replies here. Let me add a bit to it.

While it is true that the "make money online" niche has people ready to buy, these buyers have also been burned by over-hyped promises and products that don't deliver. While many people never take action on what they learn, they still feel burned. So that's what anyone in this niche is walking into customer wise. So having said that.

If you can show that you are making money online and can help others do the same then it's more than possible, with a good amount of targeted networking and a large dose of working your ass off, to make it.

Now if you've never made money online, and can't show sites or actual figures (not stats but actual figures that can't be BS'd like stats can), then that needs to come first. And the more un-forgeable proof the better.

I agree with what others are saying - start with something you know a lot about.

Nothing worse than people trying to teach newbies how to sell to the make money crowd. Time after time it results in bad products, reputations being damaged and so on.

Stick to what you know as providing value is timeless.

Once you have some experience and knowledge, sure you can approach the niche and create useful content that will help others. Provide free tips and tricks and do some affiliate promotes as well.

      Sorry, but that's fundamentally wrong.

Experience and Knowledge mean squat in the very business-orientated MMO niche. The only thing that matters is results, meaning revenue. You should only get into the MMO if you have made money yourself before you try to tell others how to make it. It's pure common sense really...

either pick a niche or ask yourself if you are going to compete with other companies/websites that do the same thing, how are you going to stand out. What makes your site special. Do you have the experience?

gaffg.com is a make money online niche but focuses solely with online gambling for example.

But perhaps there are products that are considered to be "mmo" which could exclude me from this.

For example, suppose I am really good at interviewing. I get someone who is successful selling online to do an interview, and I sell that as my first MMO product.

Why should I have to make money elsewhere first before offering this as my first offer?

Again, depends on what you are targeting and how you go about it.

Competition just verifies a need for the information.

If you single out a specific product that you are highly familiar with how it works, I see no reason not to push that product and go for it. Especially new products - this can give you a real edge if you SEO on the brand name as opposed to the harder to rank terms like "make money online."

Even then, there are people who own businesses and have no idea how certain things function within their business - but do outsource or have someone to take care of specific aspects so it then becomes a matter of just marketing in general.

Having some familiarity with what you are selling will be of great benefit.

What I don't get (endorse)is someone promoting something in their signature like "Guide to tons of traffic on your website" and then they come in here asking how they should get traffic to their website. lol

You don't have to make money online to sell these products, but you better be familiar with what the product you are promoting can do - and if you are able to verify specific functionality based on personal use it will make your marketing efforts all that much easier.

If the person can bring REAL value to the people in the
marketplace and they have the resources to market it well,
    then it's an option.

However, if they're 'winging it', 'faking it' or 'wannabes'
then I'd recommend they go someplace else where they
    can add REAL value.

I'd really have to agree with Shaun here - a newbie can absolutely enter the MMO niche and be successful, but only after having some measure of success themselves.

I love Jill's spin on this.

Think about this scenario. You start researching IM and you fall in love with Jeff Walker, Frank Kern, or some other big name player. You get excited. You are sharing constantly in your social media accounts and on your blog.

Then all of a sudden one day someone asks you, "How do I learn some of this Jeff Walker stuff?" You throw a link out into the wild to answer their question and 3 people buy, not just him.

Now, you could have done this scenario by accident, or by plan. You entered the niche due to passion, excitement, but never once claimed you were an expert.

Tell me what would be wrong with that scenario...

I'm not a doctor but I can whip out an ebook on experimental brain surgery. Poke the brain with your probe and see if the patients twitches, if not, keep poking until you get a response.

If you're going to teach How To Make Money Online, it's probably a good idea to know a little something about what your teaching.

Jill did have a good point, it is possible to enter the MMO niche and not be teaching MMO.

I suppose you'd have to narrow down the question.

Teaching How To Make 20k in 20 Days isn't the same as teaching how to setup a Facebook fan page but both fall into the MMO niche. My expectations of each author are different based on the product.

a newbie can absolutely enter the MMO niche and be successful, but only after having some measure of success themselves.
Wouldn't that success entitle the person to graduate from newbie status?

Well, it's possible to start in some free sub-niche.
Like "how to make green squeeze pages". And you'll be an expert in that area
Especially, if you can make nice green squeeze pages...

It would be difficult for you to enter the "Make Money Online" niche as you get started online for one simple reason, you haven't actually made any money online yet!

It is a classic mistake for many people starting out in internet marketing to enter that niche without first making any money themselves. Obviously it can be done, but it would be much easier to enter the "make money online" after you've already had some success in other niches in the internet marketing world.

It is a market that is saturated.

The time and money it would take to build up credibility in this market is almost overwhelming.

Not only is it competitive on the search engines, its competitive to deal with all the marketers out there.

I say stick to another niche...

You would be better off going with another niche right off. First, who is going to buy your product? Have you built a track record for yourself and as stated above where is your credibility?

Yeah, you can make money in this niche but I don't purchase much from anyone that I don't know anything about or who hasn't built a reputation. Willie, Paul, Mani, Terry and more can make a great living doing this but they didn't do it overnight, it took time and they have a great reputation. More people probably fail in this niche than any other starting off.

    Well, why not?

Though it won't be easy to immediately make money on it with all the competition, you can always try...

And don't just try to make money from it..Really provide value. Can you find something that will make other people money? Can you help other newbies find some stuff that could make them start?

If you just look at it from the point of view of making money, then don't venture there at all, there are people and even companies way much bigger than a lot of us that's also focused in doing that and they could easily beat you.

But if you're goal is to help other people, make change, apply innovation that could help a lot of us, then go. Who knows, you might be the next big thing in IM..That is if your goal is to help other marketers..

The IM niche is very broad and I would never advocate trying to pretend
you know how to achieve results you never have.

If it is a niche you are passionate about and feel you can add value to,
then find that one thing you are knowledgeable about and share that.

Build your name and trust and genuinely care about the success of others
      and the rest will follow.
