How can I tell for sure whether my newly published blog has been indexed by Google .. and for that matter, other SEs (Yahoo, Bing, etc)?

Oh, and is it true that it's best to let Google "discover" my blog, rather than try to "force" the indexing by doing stuff like "pinging", etc. (as I think Daniel Than or Tan (sp?) & others have said ... if I understood him/them correctly)?

Thanks,
Richard

    Mr. Kole is correct.

You can use the "site: " search operator in all of those search engines. If your website is returned, then the pages that are shown have been indexed for search.

Pinging can be a good way to have your content crawled and indexed, you just don't want to overdo it.

You won't have a problem with indexing if you keep adding content, build some links, and offer a sitemap for the bots to crawl.

You got some good answers about doing a search to find if it is indexed. A good way to get your site indexed is selfpromotion.com. It's free (he takes donations) and will regularly re-submit your site/n\blog on a schedule. If it is a wordpress based blog it will automatically ping the search engines when you publish new material. Be careful about pinging though. If you overdo it it can get your site banned for a while.
