Bought a site and don't really know how to monetise it?

Hi

I am pretty new to internet marketing started three months ago. I have a full time job so I do this in my evenings and weekends. I found Flippa.com and bought a few websites to get me going and learnt my first lesson. That they are being sold for a reason. I bought one site for $50, called latinasgallery(dot)com which I though was a bargain.

But now I know why because i am finding it really hard to make money from it. It is an autoblog and updates with celebrity gossip which actually gets the site quite alot of traffic per months >1500 uniques pm. I am ranked 5-6 for latinas gallery and i see only 5-8 vistors per day who come through using that serach term.

I cannot put adsense on it because i might get banned from not have family friendly content. I have tried adult ad-providers and but i did not make one sale. I am at a loss.

You help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

James

    Don't know if this helps.
but you could try finding affiliate products related to your content. It looks like you have a bunch of links to general celebrity stuff. Try that angle and find products endorsed by the celebs on your site and then become an affiliate for that product and place links and banner adds to promote on your site. Just a thought

Hi James. You will always get what you pay for. I think you paid $50 for a website where you don't have to do much because it is bringing in content from around the Net. Google frowns on these types of sites.

If it only is brining in 5 or 6 visitors each day then I wouldn't even bother trying to 'monetize' it. This is like trying to beat a dead horse.

If you are really looking for a way to make some serious money online and maybe even replace your present income, you may need to do some research before starting anything else. This begins with you.

1- What kind of idea resonates best with you: Selling affiliate products, selling business opportunities, selling services, selling ad space ETC.

2- Be honest with yourself and find something your passionate about, NOT what everyone else is doing. If it is your passion, it won't feel like work and success and results that you deserve will come quicker.

I personally would scrap the site and start fresh. If you do decide to build another site, do yourself a favor and purchase the marketing samurai software (google it). It costs money but you can get it at a discount price. It will help you do a lot of much needed research in:

    1-niches
    2-keywords
    3-competition
    4-demographics

    and much more.

I couldn't agree more. I researched a lot and I mean a lot before I eventually found what works for me. I saved a lot of money by doing this, and now continue to make a lot more. So take a good look around and you might find the answer soon.

The problem with a celebrity news site is that people are looking to buy anything when they go there. If you could get approved to offer Netflix, that may work out. Not sure what else I would try though.

Firstly, autoblogs are a thing of the past. Especially with the Google's massive hunt for content farms, getting organic traffic on an autoblog is hard.

That said, you'd probably want to promote CPA offers - Email/Zip submits. I find CPA to be the most effective way to monetize entertainment sites.

    Good luck!

Thankyou for all of your replies. I really like this forum there is a real buzz of activity and you are all quite welcoming.

You are right, start with research, find something that you enjoy and have a plan. I was looking for the easy win. I think what I have to work on is I always having to learn by experience. I like to think that I test things out for myself learn the lesson if there is one and move forward. That's where proper research in the first place helps prevent that.

I have learnt that websites are on flippa for a reason, autoblogs are a thing of the past and google will be moving towards more and more original content. That choosing the right niche is important and some are difficukt to monetise.

I think that I will go the cpa offers and pop up route, see it that's has any impact and then focus on my other sites.

      Cheers everyone

Do not get down with your mistake of buying that site. I fully sure that you know that google adsense will not fit there except if you want them to ban you. But its just a starter for you and I know you will go far in internet marketing. Like others said, always make research on whatever online businesses you intend starting.

Yeah, 5 or 6 visitors is nothing. You should probably learn how to do SEO with content of your site especially pictures and keyword content to improve your page rank. But yeah adult industry is a big big big competitive niche to start with

If I am in your shoe, this is my possible action plan

      1) throw this site away if this is not my passion to keep it. If you love that topics, then look at what values can you provide to your readers and may be you want to look for Amazon product or CPA to monetize your site

      2) Start the whole IM work based on research, knowing what the market wants, and look for a few mentors in that field to short cut your learning curve.

      3) Whatever way I choose, I never give up until I have arrived.

The thing is this site get 70 uniques visitors a day!

What I don't get is that this site is an autoblog and scrapes content on hot latin chicks. But it receives all of its traffic from keywords in google.

Must not be affected by the panda update..

        Cheers,

        James
