Stealth Market Research Method N#83
I have a secret. And I'm about to share it on a public forum, because that's just how I roll.
I listen on other people's conversations.
In fact, this very morning in Starbucks (my home office away from home) I've already heard a guy try to sell another guy on the fact that a fiery Armageddon is just around the corner. (now there's a pleasant thought.)
Then a father and son come sit the other side of me. Only for Dad to give his sulky mini-me a heart-tuggin', "After all I've sacrificed for you" speech.
Am I just nosy, or is there method to my rudeness?
The answer: bunch of method.
Because as a marketer and copywriter, I find inhaling the human nature around me gives me greater fodder for products and copious insight into what makes people tick.
How will I use the exact conversations I overheard today? I don't know yet. But they join the massive bank of other back 'n' forths I've mentally logged for years. And when you've got that goodness floating around in your head, coming up with quality marketing and persuasion angles becomes ever more likely.
So my advice fellow Warrior, because I'm so darn preachy...
Wherever you are... open your ears. Actively open them. Listen "on purpose" for marketing insights. They are all around you.
