Anyone know how to find list owners in a niche?

Hi,

I've been trying to locate owners of lists in a certain niche for potential JV's and I'd like to know if anyone knows of a way to search for this information?

Right now, all I'm doing is searching for sites in that category and checking to see if they have an opt-in form.

Any other better ideas?

Thank you!

That's actually a good method. Keep in mind just because they don't have an opt-in form on the home page that doesn't mean they don't have a list. They may have additional landing pages, or may be building a paid customer list.

If you're dealing in the information product business, the clickbank marketplace is a good place to look, because you can see by their score if it's a successful site (and therefore more likely to have a good list).

There are also some semi-automated tools. I used to use Brad Callen's SEO Elite, which if I recall correctly has a function to contact website owners via whois data. There are other automation tools, or even lists that you could buy. However, as someone who gets tons of crappy proposals a day (most of which look like they're auto-generated), I'd recommend doing the research and personalizing it as much as possible.

Another idea is to go to www.groups.yahoo.com and search for groups in a niche.

Contact the group owners of large groups, but don't be spammy.
