How much do Google Ads pay?

Hi --

I'd be interested if anyone had an metrics on how much the 300x250 google banner ads generally pay out. I am trying to make some decisions regarding advertising, and make some calculations on expected revenue.

(a) Does it depend on your site? (i.e., do you get paid 'more' per ad if your site is more popular?)
(b) I believe it is dependant on the 'type' of ad. Which type(s) have you found perform better?

Thanks,

John

    Different niches will vary greatly.

For moderately accurate figures, you can simply check the click costs and other figures in google adwords.

So (a) is a yes. Your sites content will determine what type of advertisements are displayed, and that introduces a huge variance.

    (b) Not sure exactly what you mean by 'type', but the payout is more about what the advertisers are willing to pay for clicks. The different ad types will affect your conversions more than the payout.

Just so you don't drive yourself nuts trying to figure out why you can't get the same advertisers and figures, know that many very serious advertisers only want their ads displayed on high quality authority sites. So if you're starting up a new site, don't expect them.

the amount paid depends on your content which in turn display relevant ads. If ads are related to insurance kinda stuffs they will pay alot per click. Some keywords pay few cents. You cannot judge by the size of the ad box

I'm actually just trying to get a 'ballpark' figure, so I understand what the 'opportunity cost' is for someone to use regular ads vs google ads.

I.e., I want to purchase advertising space. So I want to have an idea of how much people are making with existing google ads, so I can offer them something similar, or better.

      Thanks,

      John

You aren't going to get that answer here.

You aren't even going to get a close estimate without giving us your niche, or better.

I gave you enough information in my first post to get where you need to go.

If that's the case, why not just ask them how much it would cost to make it worth their while to display your ad in place of an adsense ad?

Quite simply because if you ask someone how much they make, and you will pay them more, they tend to 'inflate' the numbers.

Well depended on the bid of Ad and from where you get click. Location also matters. Usually higher bid counts from the locations of Europe and Americas. Average can be measured $.05 to 1$.

It really depends on the niche with adsense.

    Mortgage/Real Estate/Insurance clicks often pay $1 - $5 while music/fashion/ringtone type stuff pay .01 - .25.

People buying/placing the ads also have a choice to pay per click or per impression. If you pay per impression and you know the traffic, you can estimate the actual cost.

Thanks, I appreciate your answer. Do you know somewhere where I can see 'industry' averages, or is that based on your personal experience?

Sure, but that's not what I said. I wouldn't be afraid to ask someone how much they'd want to place an ad on their website.

I get around .03$ per click. I think that AdSense is just extra cash for me per money.

Im not sure that google really posts averages like that. The official word from them is that it is about 68% of the revenue paid to the publisher. You can also take into account that advertisers will pay slightly less per click on the content network that for the adwords. Generally I shoot for keywords that have an adwords average over 1.00. I can usually expect to average .30 to .50 cent range per click. Again, this really depends on the niche and the keyword

I have found that you actually get more payout when you have less AdSense ads on your page. From my tests, in Google's eyes the page which you AdSense ads are being displayed is like a SERP, by putting less ads on your page, means higher payouts per click.

I know it sounds wired, try it out. Also, it is kinda of single minding question, it has many other factors, like: CTR of the advertiser, history of the AdSense user, ad position in the ad block, keyword used to generate the ad, what the advertiser is willing to pay per click and to bunch of other factors.

I've seen anything from .5 cents to $1 plus per click.
