Can't Find Spam Link In theme

Hey,

I installed this theme:- Drive With Clive

And if you go to the bottom (footer) there is a spam adult link there!

I cannot find it in the editor or in the files folder, I have been searching for ages.

Its not encrypted I have seen those before and it is not that.

All that is in the footer file is: <?php wp_footer(); ?>

Maybe someone who is better then me at using firebug can locate it for me?

    Where did you get the theme from? Someone probably encrypted footer.php, I would recommend finding another theme.

    They have the code hidden in a different file that the footer file is designed to pick up.

    I had a similar issue with a theme and spent hours finding the link and code.

    What you want to do is pull up the actual url of the adult link (copy link address) and then paste that into the imput box on a browser "FIND" search. Even if you had part of the actual URL you could make that work.

    Just open up each template and search them.

    Some themes hard-code links in the footer in such way that you can't edit.
    Usually these themes will also be offered without any links in the footer if you pay for it.

    My opinion,

    If you don't like the footer links, don't use the theme.

    Somebody put in time and work to build that theme, give them some credit and payback, they deserve it.

    If you want a theme that doesn't have footer links, keep searching for freebies or do what real business people do, invest in your business and purchase a professional theme.

      This is definitely the case. I have given themes away and asked that people keep the footers in - I have never encrypted or tried to stop people removing them/made it more difficult. Clearly this was a mistake as people are quite happy to expect everything given to them for free while they try to make money from everyone else.

          What are you going on about? Have you not read the thread it was a pirated theme with a sex toy link in the footer. I have no problems keeping links in the footer to people who have created the theme especially if I get it free.

          If I pay for the theme however it is totally up to me whether I keep the link or not I would have paid good money for the theme especially when I pay like £40.

          I will report the website to the official creators thank you.

      Try using WordPress › AntiVirus « WordPress Plugins

      Install it and activate it, then have it scan your theme files.

      IMO, there's a big difference between a backlink like "Created by XYZ themes" and a backlink to a sex toy, which is what the OP is talking about.

      The first link is placed by the creator of the theme. He deserves the link. The second type of link is placed by a middleman who takes themes that someone else made and puts his own link in. He doesn't deserve a link.

      Yes I don't mind keeping links in the Footer but preferably not an 'Adult Toys' site selling vibrators and what not.

    Upon further investigation...

    I don't know where the OP got the theme from but he certainly didn't buy it. It's a warez version.

    If you like the theme, buy it here.

    Is there a difference? Your morality or personal beliefs are irrelevant.

    An author can put any link in a themes footer that they want, who are you to decide what is a proper link and what is not. It's not your decision, it's the authors.

    I agree with the middleman comment, there are a lot of people who take free themes and slap their own links into them and I don't agree with that practice, however, that middleman is making the theme available to a greater audience and using their own resources to do so.

    It's not against the WP GPL license to modify and redistribute other GPL themes. It's also not against the WP GPL to remove footer links, I just think is a crappy thing to do to someone when they are providing something for free.

    I'm a wordpress developer and my freebies are few and far between. People have no consideration or gratitude for quality work that is provided to them free of cost. Footer links are often removed and I don't know what makes people assume they are entitled to free theme support. I'm not receiving free WSO support.

      The original creator might like to know where you bought the pirated version. I'm not suggesting you say where you bought it from here - but I'm sure the creator would like to know so he/she can issue a DMCA notice.

      Maybe see if you can get a refund of your $10 first!
