Anyone successful selling physical products?

I'm getting more and more interested in either sourcing a private label product and creating a brand, or getting into drop shipping physical products.

The trouble is it's overwhelming how many scams there are in this type of adventure.

I'm wondering if anyone here has any tips or tricks to finding reputable wholesalers.

I'm not looking for your secret products or anything like that, just how to go about finding actual wholesalers that sell something besides retail priced junk.

I know that there are successful people out there selling physical products with drop-shipping, but (in my opinion) I don't see it as a good idea. Why take any responsibility of the shipping and product fulfillment for the same percentage as affiliate marketing can give you?

Then on top of that you still have to bring traffic to your site and convert the sales.

Why not just concentrate on bringing traffic to your site and converting sales and let someone else deal with all the rest? (Affiliate marketing)

I've done physical products in the past, and now I do affiliate marketing. I will never go back to physical products. Ever. I used to ship things in from China and distribute them for quite a profit. Holy crap what a nightmare. Never again.

I make a full time income selling physical products as an affiliate.

The good thing about it is that I don't have to touch the product, deal with customer service, shipping etc and get 8% right off the top.

The downside I guess is less control and you can probably have higher margins if you drop ship but then you have all the other customer service etc issues to deal with.

Sam England has a great course here on the forum about dropshipping and I'd highly suggest it if you are looking to get into dropshipping. I might try a few sites out myself and see how it turns out.

Alternatively if you want to check out affiliate marketing for physical products there are a ton of really good products out there that'll teach you all you need to know. Just search this forum for Amazon affiliate marketing.

      Cheers,

I actually started in internet marketing back in 2005 with a dropshipping website that sold emergency supplies. The hardest thing about finding suppliers is finding one that has great products with a good market. You also need to make sure that there are not hundreds of other websites already in the market selling the same products. It can be hard to compete unless you can find something that would give you an edge on the competition.

I did fairly well with my site and it took about 8 month before I started to make some money. At it's peak I was making about $2000/month profit.

I have since moved on because I find that promoting things like Adsense and Amazon are much easier and I don't need to deal with all of the customer emails and phone calls from people wondering where their orders are.

If it is something that you still are wanting to do then I would search through and find a good niche and then look for some trade shows in the same category. Most trade show websites will give you a list of exhibitors that show and you can filter to through them to find potentials for companies that might be willing to dropship for you. You will need to call each potential company and talk to them about the possibilities. Keep in mind that it only takes one great supplier to create a successful dropshipping business.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some markets will be more open to the idea of dropshippiing than others. You just have to find one that does.

On a final note, stay away from websites that might offer for you to purchase wholesale lists and other crap like that. It's mostly all just junk that has been passed around forever. I also looked into sites like Doba at one time or another and it's not worth it. Everything on there has extremely low margins and has major competition from everyone else trying to promote it.

Either way, best of luck to you. Hope this helps
