i was scammed by another warrior - help

hi all, i need some advices and help

i was scammed by 1 of the warrior, do not want to disclose the name as things havent been settled.
this guy is quite active and staying long enough in WF, i approach him personally by email and he claimed to rank my site for competitive keyword to 1st page in 30 days, else he will give me full refund, as i am not very pro yet, so i choose to believe his words and pay him $200 for advance payment, total will be $350...i know this is noob...but i was desperate.

now 40 days over, my site is at bottom of google and i can see that my yahoo explorer showing only 15 links (40 days for 15 links is lame and how can it ranked on 1st page)....

he always gave a lot of excuses during the period (blame google algorithm change, tsunami, domain name not suitable....etc)
i cant see what has he done to rank my site.... but only wasted my time and my money.

2 days ago i told him to refund me the money (i was kind enough to ask for $170 rather than $200) else i will file a dispute in paypal... i thought he will be ethic enough to refund me, yet he sent me an email this morning... he ask for $150 more to cover his cost that he paid for outsourcing company that working on my site.... wth... nothing has been done on my site and his promise never achieved...

i am going to file a dispute in paypal definitely.
i just want to get some help from good hearted warriors that how can i win this and get my money back.
i am willing to give out all the email conversation to paypal incase it is escalated...

thanks a lot and really need your help

This issue is between you and the scammer, not for us.

You may want to issue a ticket to the help desk.

For your future reference, no one can really insure page one of google for anything - unless they own google.

I've been in the SEO game long enough to "guarantee #1 spots" by looking at the competitions' site profiles. One thing I will NEVER guarantee though, is the time it will take to get there.

In this case, the OP doesn't mention the other person's name. We tend to let these types of posts slide from time to time (in my experience, but I'm not a Super Mod).

Also, the answers may provide some educational value for others who read it.

Anyway, I don't think this breaks Rule #1 - not the way it's written anyway.

I don't know the situation, but I would think it's going to take some time to climb in the rankings. However, you should avoid anybody who promises you a certain ranking.

Has it been more than 30 days? More than 60? Has your site climbed at all?

And, yes, Google's changes did affect a lot of people. However, (I may catch some heat for this) that's the seller's problem, not yours. I think he should do his best to get you as high up in the rankings as possible, algorithm changes or not.

      All the best,
      Michael

        thanks man for your help,
yes, it exceeds 30 days and i gave him extra 10 days to at least let me see that there is some improvement but none.
i cant see my site at anywhere in google for that keyword....
        not to mention top pages...

i know the changes affect many ppl but i have tried to get another ppl to do the same keyword for my another site after i ordered from this guy, (both are new sites with no links), you know what, another site has hit page 15... i know it is nothing for ranking but at least i can see the result...

i am totally disappointed with this order and i am too naive to pay the advance payment..

even i cant get my money back i will at least reveal the name to all (no matter i will be banned from WF or not). at least i will alert others who want to work with this guy..

        thanks

Don't do that. It may feel good, and you may think you're helping a few people, BUT...

You will lose out on getting the real help you need.

Keeping this thread up will help warn enough people. To warn people not to pay for these types of services REGARDLESS of WHO is offering them.

See, if you name the one person...new people will think that OTHER people offering the same service are okay, and that's not the right message.

Also, if you name the person, the thread will come down almost immediately, and nobody will see it anyway.

          So...please don't make a bad situation worse.

          All the best,
          Michael

p.s. I once lost $100s to a "warrior" and really wanted to mention his name, but I kept my cool. It was an expensive lesson, but it was the best choice. Hang in there.

but i trully appreciate your advice dude... and i understand what you mean..

I agree with Michael's advice above. Most of us have been there. It's never pleasant to lose money but education costs money and you've undoubtedly gained some education. Just learn as much as you can. If you stay around WF long enough I promise you that you will receive much more in value than the money you've lost. This is a very generous group of people. Some will take your money but the vast majority of people will give you much more than you could ever expect.
            Press on!

I definitely agree with Micheal on this...

If you wish to name someone, do it on your own blog.

Cool down a little and then think a rational plan.

Sometimes the cost is worth the lesson learned. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

There was a great story I read a few years ago

A man with money met a man with experience...The man with experience walked away with the money...The man with no money walked away with experience.

I have often racked my brain about who I read that from...
Harvey Segal comes to mind... I can't remember who it was,
but I never forgot the story.

Just forgot to add it to my previous post...lol

              Rufus,
Just a quick update. Within the past week I have become a client of a fellow warrior. He over-delivers a quality service. As I was typing the above post he was sending me a pm with some very helpful information. He is very busy yet took the time to help me out. He could have not done this and I would have never known. I have also had warriors help me with website issues for no-charge. Once it took up the better part of a Saturday with people in different parts of the world helping me. Just wanted to offer more encouragement to hang in there. A year from now you'll be glad you did it.

thanks...the reason i post this thread up is because i really think WF is a great place with ppl who r willing to help... and i wanna get some advice from others to resolve this problem...

since it is a mistake tat i done, i have prepared to lose the money. to you all it may not b a big sum of money, to me tats alot...

but i think it is good to at least let others know that there are scammers out there in WF... and i wish others do not fall in the trap like wat i have done...

but the most disturbing part is that the guy is has stay in this forum for long enough and quite active...

                anyway, thanks again

I would hope so. Seems like a strange rule to protect a person who is doing business this way. Kind of makes no sense to me really. But I guess maybe the threads turn into something they don't want on the site. But still... I would think anyone would have the right to know a seller's reputation and kind of hard to do that if things like this are suppressed. Maybe they should set up a Rating system on the WSOs or something.

unfortunately this is not a WSO, i just personally PM this guy when i found that he offering the same thing to another guy who posted to hire some guy to rank his site in "warrior service - warrior want to hire you" that section.
the rest of the conversation just via email.

This was not a WSO or any other advertised service on the Warrior Forum. The OP made contact after seeing a posted reply to a "help wanted" ad here.

I can't even imagine how much horse hockey would be tossed about here if anyone and everyone could post about "he scammed me" or "I didn't get what I ordered" or "it didn't work for me so he lied". All would give their side of the story - in which, of course, they did no wrong nor had unreasonable expectations.

The OP is free to post about it on his own blog and say whatever he wants - not free to name people here. I understand when new members don't quite get what the rules are and why they exist - but those who have been here a while should understand it by now, don't ya think?

                Just as a side note; if you want to check to see your results and ensure you are getting a "fair" assessment of your Google Rank (rather than one influenced by whatever Google does to try and personalise the rankings to you) try using;

                http://scroogle.com

                https://ssl.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbwssl.cgi?Gw=%s

Replace "%s" with your search term and you'll find a bunch of good results.

Just thought I'd let you know, in-case your results aren't showing what they typically are to other people (this happens a lot).

                hi,thanks for your reply.
                i understand your concern.
but as i am the one who is facing the situation, i believe that even many ppl posting all those "i got scammed', "the guy failed to deliver" stuff, i think this is also an education to others and a mirror for many.

if you can accept those "i make thousands in one day" which also not been verified, why not these kind of post...
as i said, i dun care whether i can get back my money, i dun care whether i will b banned... this is just to tell ppl that there is someone who may get scammed...
now i personally even may be facing the guy counter against that i did not pay him the remaining $150 for his "done nothing" job. why should i do so much thing to make myself into trouble..

yes i am new here, thats y i totally do not understand that why there is a must to ban this kind of seeking for advice and help post.

You've been here long enough to know you shouldn't encourage people to break the rules.

The reasons for Rule #1 have been discussed many times.

What's to stop them from doing it? One word: education. Think about it.

Have you asked him for a report of the SEO/backlinking work that he has implemented so far? If it is true that he has only delivered 15 backlinks in 30+ days, it appears like he did not hold up his end of the bargain.

Unfortunately, no one can guarantee Google ranking this way - it was definitely not ethical of him to guarantee a first-page ranking without offering any kind of refund (in the event that he couldn't deliver).

So just my opinion, you need to get it done within 45 days else you'll lose that money.
If he says he's done seo services for you, ask him to prove it with relevant link reports.
If those links are built and you are nowhere in the SERPS as claimed, you have every right to go against this. Cheers. I hope my answers help you.

yes, thats exactly what i am thinking..
      i marked it as service
i kept the emails that he claimed he can rank me in 30 days for specific keyword.
my site is no where in top 100 pages. ever...

i hope i can really get my money back.

They may. One of my niche sites sells downloads. One customer paid for the product and then didn't know how to download. She emailed for support, but I didn't reply. I was at my Dad's funeral. (go figure on timing)

The next day I check email and find a paypal dispute telling me I need to go through dispute resolution. Go figure the only dispute I've ever had was when I wasn't there to reply same day. So I emailed her the file and she cancelled the dispute.

Point being, they covered digital goods in THAT case. lol.
        So who knows, they may.

          Nope - they never will.

And if you escalate to a claim it is all over.

Tim... so what I don't understand, then, is why did they file a dispute for my customer when she bought a digital product??

I've only had 1 refund and 1 dispute in 14 years online, so I'm totally green when it comes to refunds/disputes. I fully admit I know nada, nothing, zilch. Just confused about why they filed one for my customer on a digital product??

You paid for a service, and he did not deliver. For me this is clear.
The fact that he demands $150 "to cover his cost" is ridiculous. You are not interested in HIS fricking costs (obviously he simply outsourced the SEO)....you wanted (and paid for) something you did not get, despite the seller's claims.
I hope you get the money back from paypal although its tough with services.

can he provide any proof of the work that he performed? He should be able to send you a list of all the links that he created for your website and you can follow them to verify that they have a link to your site. In the future it is a good idea to have the person working for you send weekly updates with exact links that have been built.

I agree with Georg - you paid for a service and it wasn't delivered in the time promised so go ahead and file the dispute. Keep all evidence of correspondence so you can prove what the service was that you paid for and that it wasn't delivered.

It can be difficult winning a case with Paypal for digital delivery items, but it is possible, especially if you have all the details. That really was a lot of money to pay and see no results. Don't give him the extra money - I'm shocked to hear that he asked for more, that is just ridiculous. If he has spent extra on the job then that's his problem, plus if the job still isn't done where is his money going? I think he is just trying to scam you out of more money.

Good luck - I hope you get your money back.

LOL; if they have nothing to hide or worry about then they wouldn't be "warning" (read: threatening) you.

Just see where the dispute goes, but keep in mind that sometimes taking a $200 hit is worth it to save yourself the time and hassle that recovering the money is worth.

I hope it works out for you.

I am glad you posted this here. I want to think that the Warrior Forum still has that community spirit I saw that it had when I joined in 2008. I know there are rules here and there is a place for disputes to be heard - but I am glad to see more posts on trying to help you out rather than jerking about rules and regulation.

You need to trust the system. This is the time for you to step back, set aside emotions (I know its hard - many a-times I wanted to punch the light out of someone but that's not the way) and use the system within Paypal to help you out. You've contacted them already now you need to focus on helping them help you. Just supply Paypal all relevant information - don't blast - just be calm and business-like and go through the steps and follow up until its resolved. Its going to take a long while, so my advice is to 'move on' and don't waste your valuable time distracted by this. Use this experience to make a come back and win. I know you will.

Well, you know what they say - when you're at the bottom, the only direction left to go is UP. lol.

IMHO, I agree with those that say don't post the name of the person. It will only cause you grief.

I am posting a little of this for benefit of others reading along, and will send the rest of the info to you by email to keep your niche and keywords private. Thanks for PMing the email since I can't PM yet. Lurking doesn't count towards being able to PM, I guess. (I lurk more than post. lol)

        Overview of what has happened...

        You originally owned domain #1.

The person doing SEO for you said it's not a good phrase to target and suggested that you register domain #2. So you did and copied the site to domain #2.

        Here's the problem...

        1) The new keyword chosen (domain #2) is very, very competitive. It has 368,000 exact match searches. Your original phrase had too few, but if you invert the words, it has 5400, which is very do-able.

        2) I checked Google serps (page 1) for the "new" keyword (domain #2) and the top 10 ranked sites have...
        -- PR 2-5 (mostly 3-5)
-- 500-14,000 links to the ranked page url
        -- 1300 - 1,000,000+ links to the domain
        -- high site authority

It would be almost impossible to take a brand new domain and get it to page 1 for a keyword with 368,000 exact match searches and strong serp competition -- much less do that in 30 days.

        Plus...

-- the new domain has 0 backlinks
-- the original domain has 12 backlinks

With no backlinks, no PR and no authority, neither of the sites IS going to rank well.

Of the two, your original site would be much easier to rank. The competition is weak. 3 of the sites on page 1 are 0 PR (page rank) and some of the competing sites are on page one of Google with with single digit backlinks. (ie; under 10)

        Here is what I suggest...

#1) Do nothing with the "new" domain.

#2) Work on ranking your original site. I will coach you on how in email. I will give instructions, you just do the work.

When it works and you get some traffic, you can come back here and post woo-hoo. lol.

Are you game to do the work if I show you how?

hi dude, as stated in my post, the total for this first page ranking is $350.
in our agreement, i stated that i will only pay $150 when my site climb up in page 5, so total is $350...

but now my site is no where, and he said he will file a dispute against me that i did not pay the money for him to continue the service.

    hi Linda,
thanks alot for your advice and suggest.
i may try to boost my site some other day but not now because i need to settle this thing.

i paid this guy money because i thought he is veteran enough to know what he guaranteed to me and he can deliver as per promised...well again, i was too naive. (well, he even tell me that i was too noob to know how seo works no matter there is guarantee or not...well fine i am noob, but then what is the meaning of guarantee?)

so now, i do not want to touch any of these sites until i settle this issue.
even i do not get my money back, which is so heavy for me, i still want some justice.

and for those who initially planning to get this kind of service, pls do not pay a lot to ppl in advance payment until he deliver and do not believe any of the guarantee that promised.

even he claimed he is reputable or trustworthy to others. yes, he maybe done good to others, but not you if anything happen, you do not know what will happen.
when things happen, you ask for the things agreed in the agreement, he may even tell you that you are too noob to know how seo works and forget about the guarantee agreement.

i hope my experience will warn newbies similar to me who are desperate to see results from falling in this kind of awful situation.

Okey-dokey, but it seems silly to me. Part of running a successful business is like knowing how to play poker - you have to know when to fold a bad hand.

What you're doing is ignoring a site you could rank well because of a dispute with a site that isn't ranking well.

You could pursue both at the same time. Escalate your original site while dealing with unfinished business at the same time. It's possible to do more than one thing at a time. But, your call.

well...despite the heat in this thread, i need to say something else.

Rufus, did you have a new site and bought a whole bunch of backlinking services?
(Looking through your msg history on the forum might suggest this)

So..it MIGHT very well be the case that whoever did your link services might have indeed done the work...but the result (your site not showing up) is simply because you overdid it with backlinks.

Since you said you are a noobie this might very well be the case. Then the link builder cannot be blamed, except for giving that silly "guarantee" which no serious SEo should do anyway.

On a positive note, it might be that the site will re-appear in some time, weeks or months with good rankings. NEVER do a lot of link building on a new site!

(It looks like you went on a shopping spree for backlinks...but i can be wrong...)
