I have and have seen many others use it successfully as well (as well as others who haven't used it the best way). Some people treat it the same as e-mail, which I don't believe is the best way to go about it.

I find it best for announcing special deals / discounts, alerting them to the start or end of a deal, alerting them to new webinars, sending reminders to stuff they signed up for like webinars, etc..

If you're trying to send a promo once or twice a day each and every day, that's something that might be better suited for e-mail (although I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions), but the above I've seen work great.

I also run MobileAutoresponder.com which has options for online mobile lead generation as well as offline lead generation (all the others I've seen only do short codes and the like whereas we have those plus online lead capture forms for mobile numbers which makes a huge difference for online campaigns), so feel free to check it out.

The answer is yes. But you have to know that mobile is highly localized and if you are using stuff like short codes vs. long codes and advertise your optin pages online....

Well, people outside of the USA will not be able to optin to your list.

Long codes are better for a more international audience. Short codes are great for USA based promotions.....

I use and sell SMS and other communications technology extensively in my offline marketing. The one comprehensive service provider I've been using and also recommending for my clients for over 4 years now is callfire.com. It works on all platforms and all carriers throughout the US. Some of its services are international.

I use callfire for broadcasting but have had trouble with the new SMS. For some reason they DON'T seem to be working for all carriers and I have had to go elsewhere even though their straight $0.03 a message is the best rate out there.

Couple of ways SMS being used with IM:

A rather obvious one, creating an SMS opt-in option on your Webforms. Just make sure you have an auto-response confirmation so people can't enter someone else's cell phone into a Webform!

Also great to use an SMS call-to-action on your vidoes, so your prospect doesn't have to leave the video to opt-in! Just announce and flash the text opt-in on your video and send them a mobile landing page, tiny URL or other info to bring them further into the sales funnel.

Also use SMS to to run live Ask Camapigns on webinars, teleseminars or presentations, and offer a text to win bonus at the end of a webinar. By announcing the Keyword at the end of the webinar, you're not offering a prize to someone who logged onto the webinar and walked away!

Many other ways to incorporate SMS into IM, hope some of these ideas help!

Also, most Short Codes do not go out on ALL Carriers, it's just too expensive and time consuming to set up your Short Code with every small wireless carrier. Some Short Code providers do a much better job than others in coverage. We have had national clients complain that thousands of messages fail to go out every time they broadcast on their Short Code because their list includes so many people on small wireless carriers.

Long Codes, however, are not Carrier specific and do, indeed, go out on all Carriers.
