If you had to start over and only get advice from ONE person, who would it be? Why?

Personally I'm going with Jay Abraham

  • Chris Farrell because he explain things in a very basic manner. A bit like if you are dumb, but hey it works like hell!

    Without him i'd be lost.

If i could afford him i'd try frank kern cause i find him super funny .

    • Stone Evans!! Hat's Off to him, reality makes a point!!
  • I have been involved in this industry since 2005. I have had many different mentors. All of them have taught me different things in different ways. So I don't think that I would rely on just one mentor.

Maybe the best mentor would be yourself. Think about this for a minute. A great leader can only point you in the right directions and leave it up to you to take action. We learn and grow by finding out what is best for us and what is best for us to do.

You eventually need to grow into that leader or mentor that everyone so desperately searches for.

You probably get great ideas everyday. Do you always act on them or do you sometimes talk yourself out of taking that specific action? The most successful people acted on their inspirations and have gotten great results.

  • I think this is a hard question because each of my mentor's all have distinct core competencies!

If I had to choose, ONE though, it would be my Mom. She is the inspiration behind the reason why I do what I do.

I know this sounds cliche - but it's the truth. Without her encouraging me to succeed in whatever I do, and to guide me in my business ventures (she's has owned brick and mortars) I would not have the focus and drive that I currently have..

    • It's incredibly important to have support from your loved ones, without it, I doubt I would be as successful as I am --- probably working at a "real" job!
  • I hate to be the only one admitting this but I didn't have a mentor. I love learning things myself. I guess that's why I've been doing this for 15 years.
    • [2] replies
    • I don't think your mentor has to be a person* in this case, it may be a forum.

by definition, mentor is "a wise and trusted counselor or teacher."

I believe that the warriorforum is a Wise and Trusted Counselor, and* teacher

    • I haven't been doing this for 15 years, but I never had a mentor either.

I've always been keen to learn things myself and figure them out. Not that I was ever afraid to ask questions, because I always have questions... I just get the answer myself without relying on 1 person.

  • Frankie boy kern.

his free stuff is better than most the alleged 'gurus' $197... stuff is

I am serious too. He might be a wacky sort of dude, but that is what makes him more personalable. No suit and tie and clean cut saying you need to pay more look. LOL

    • Yea, Frank is an incredible marketer. He really understands that people care more about character, than they do content.
  • Anyone else??

My second favorite is probably Eben Pagan
  • Frank Kern is always worth listening to.

I would have to say that a big influence on me was always Kevin Riley

  • It really depends what you require of your mentor but if you're looking for a no-nonsense, intelligent approach to business then I can think of one man who stands head and shoulders above the rest; Paul Myers.

You might want to start by taking a look at his site TalkBiz, it's headline is "First things first: Put your wallet back in your pocket" which appeals straight away

Interestingly Ed Dale, who understandbly has been recommended by many posters, had this to say about Paul's newsletter: "This one is a must for any online marketer."

  • I totally forgot about Mr. Anthony Robbins --- yea he's a genius, in more than one way!
  • My parents. They are so strong and such supportive people. They have overcome struggles and come out on top through hard work. I wish I could be as strong and determined.

  • Armand Morin for me.
  • We are part of the SIX Figure Mentors (SFM) a facility for “building an online business” which is run by top Internet Marketers it provides us with tools, training, coaching and most importantly community to help us achieve our goals. The part we find the most worthwhile and been totally invaluable is the community aspect.

We are part of a mastermind group, who meets each month face to face, where we talk with REAL people, doing exactly what we are trying to achieve. We have learnt heaps and the support is really fantastic - a community is by far one of our best so called mentors so far.

    • I would have to say Frank Kern definitely. He is down to earth and always gives you great information you can use in your own internet marketing efforts. He really knows and understands how to build a list of trusting subscribers and how to be cool to everybody.
  • Ben Hart!

Listen Ben was there for me when I needed him and explained in greater detail when needed. He is Awesome!
  • thanks for the tips guys. checking them out now. I've found Terry Kyle to be helpful also. currently doing his hydra course.

    • I have really learned alot from Jason Fladlien, I respect his approach and he has been someone I have followed just about from the beginning of this journey. I like the fact that he makes everything so easy to follow which was awesome when just starting out. As well as the fact that any product I got from him, he always over delivered on what I bought, just my 2 cents So I would stick with him as my one and only mentor.
    • I second that!

      Michelle

  • If there was one person for me it would have to be samantha milner, her info is gold. She has helped me so much and if it wasnt for her I would be stuck in a bank earning less in a day than what it costs to buy me and my son a mcdonalds.

I can never thank her enough for all the advice she has given me and the new life I now have.

I started out by following her free info and creating an affiliate income to being able to build my first site. I am on wk 10 of one of her courses at the moment and couldnt be happier.
  • Vin Montello was a great copywriting mentor to me.

  • I have never had a mentor as yet I am trying to teach myself. I learnt html myself.

If I need to do something I can always find a way , if I'm really really stuck, then only I ask someone.

    • If I were starting all over again from scratch, I'd choose the following
      people to learn from.

Paul Myers - Because he is one of the brightest people I know and knows
how to communicate with people. To me, this is one of the most important
      skills to have.

Willie Crawford - Because the man cares. I've known Willie for a long time
and he has given me his time and attention when few others would.

George Sepich - Because the man has more ideas than Imelda Marcos
has shoes. I've never seen anybody work harder at putting things together
and thinking outside of the box.

Allen Says - Because for crying out loud, look at the gold mine that man
has produced. I think I could learn more than a thing or two from him.

Donald Trump - I doubt the man ever laid a brick in his life and yet look
at all he's created. This is a man who knows how to get what he wants
without having to do the heavy lifting himself. I'd LOVE to know his secrets.

My Prospects - I would spend more time really listening to their wants
and needs. You can learn more from the people you're trying to reach
than from any other mentor on the planet if you truly take the time to
listen. That's why the top companies ARE the top companies. They do
their market research and KNOW what the prospect wants.

Had I done all this from day 1, I would have gotten to where I want to
be a lot quicker than I did.

My 2 cents for whatever they're worth.

    • If I could spend as much time with Mr. Mentor as I'd like, I'd probably pick Tim Ferriss.

I have the same neurotic note-taking behaviour and he's used that, along with willpower and a bunch of fixes along the way to build himself up into a life that is not only comfortable, but enjoyable.

      Snap-decision.
  • Ewen Chia is my favorite mentor.

    • I agree with Willie Crawford - Dan Kennedy... but at a distance, not sitting at his feet.

Why at a distance? Because about 75% of what he teaches is valid for most other information marketers, and the other 25% is his personal preferences.

Still 75% is a very high percentage of value.

    • I just checked in with this great thread on favorite mentors. I am brand new to internet marketing, and the idea of a mentor really appeals to me. Is there some resource where I could hire someone, for example one of the people mentioned as people's favorites? Or by mentors do people mean someone they read and follow their methods?

    • Must admit it's Chris Farrell for me. And I would always recommend anyone new to check him out.

But Jo Barnes is an up and coming expert on her niche of Facebook Fan Pages, and may be worth considering if you plan to operate in that niche.
  • Dan Kennedy - If you're new to marketing, you definitely need to learn the fundamentals from Dan. You'll get a university education in streetwise marketing. Honestly, I learnt most of my marketing from Dan. And as I later found out, so did everyone else who now teaches marketing!

Jimmy D Brown - Jimmy's material is very thorough but simple. You won't get bogged down and overwhelmed with his stuff. He gives more "how-to" and "step-by-step" info than any other marketer I know.

Frank Kern - As so many have already said, Frank is really unique. His products are pricey, but excellent. I wouldn't recommend him for newbies. He's more suited to those who are already up and running. After listening to him, it's easy to wish you had some of his wit and easy-going southern style. He demonstrates the importance of letting your own personality come thru to your prospects and customers. He's a funny guy! He also learnt a lot from Dan Kennedy.

  • Definitely Robert Kiyosaki. The Cashflow Quadrant says it all!

  • My best friend is my favorite mentor. Not only to help me make money but help me in many ways in life.

    • Aaah... "I drink alone..." THAT was the lyric! The fact that I always thought it was "I drink COLOGNE..." probably explains my headaches and near death experiences.

  • This is such an open ended question because there are so many different skills to learn in the marketing arena. I could make several lists depending on what I wanted to learn, however, overall I'd have to list the following, in no particular order.

    James Schramko
    Jason Fladlien
    Jimmy D. Brown
    Dan Kennedy
    Tim Gorman
    Allan Gardyne
    Alice Seba
    Steven Resell
    Gauher Chauhdry
    Michael Campbell
    Rosalind Gardner
    Jeremy Palmer
    Jerry West
    The Rhodes Brothers

I could go on, but that's a good rough draft. I've learned things from all of them that have in one way or another had an impact on my IM efforts. I've bought products from every one at least once.

In life mentoring I rank Jesus Christ #1. :-)

    • I can't agree more. Jay is my all-time favorite marketer. I hope one day I can meet him in person and shake his hand.
  • For me it's Travis Sago.... I found about the internet marketing world through his emails.
  • Personally I feel the best guru is the one reading this post. We've all got our own unique gifts to give to the world. Sure... learn off the experience of others, but I reckon the best guru is the one within.

    Hope that helps,

    David.
  • Andy Jenkins for me cause I love how he utilizes and explains the importance of videos to internet marketing
  • Tony Robbins and Jack Canfield are the best!
  • Anybody who provides an actual case study of something
  • I would say my best mentor has to be experience, it's a damn hard lesson to learn, but once you learn it, you will NEVER forget it.

    • There's a saying (not sure who to give credit to), that goes something like...

"If you average out the 5 people who you spend most of your time around, more than likely, that average will be pretty close to you - in terms of wealth, health, etc..."

I can't agree with this saying more...hence the necessity of mentoring (in all areas of our lives, not just IM)...
  • Well Guys,
I tend to think abut the Internet like "The Football Premier League" in the UK. ( soccer )
There are a lot of young men, earning lot's of money, but when shove comes to push they FAIL. There are probably 500 + of them getting the equivalent of $250,000 per week, living in big houses and driving flash cars. They spit, swear and jump in and out of bed in hotels around the world. ( Not all are overpaid jerks ) But most are.
The lower leagues, do the business, graft, work hard for far less reward. They work harder, care more about the fan base and help the local community. They know that compared to Joe public they are far better off. Their lives even in the lower leagues is very nice, thank you very much.
The high profile players just like the big Gurus, Screw everybody. They promote each others products to their huge lists, give away a few video's to bribe the punters and then put on a big price tag, ( just to sort out the tire kickers ) yeah right !!!just to give you bigger profits. The football/soccer players earn more from the commercials they do than the $250,000 a week wages sometimes three or 4 times as much. The recent launches have produced some epic rubbish, few gurus or premier league footballers can compare to the one's of a few years ago.Few have kept there feet on the ground.
We all know the good one's ,they stand out from the crowd and long may that continue. But there are some " spammers" who have so many pen names to hide the crap they peddle, but they still have made a fortune.
So don't get too hung up on Guru's, follow, the good and honest, the recommended and let the rest fed at the trough ?? While you are in the meadow behind
  • @thegolfer

I totally agree that there are some people out there that will lie, cheat, and steal to get your money...

But, I know that there are ethical marketers that truly care about their market. Most of them use this forum on a regular basis.
  • My answer is Alen

  • Chris Farrell to help me get started in th IM world and now Tristan Bull the man thinks outside the box...
  • Personally, Jason Fladlien has made the most "actionable" impact on me.

John S. Rhodes is a close second. Both of these guys are brilliant at a whole other plane of existence.

    Cheers,

  • Yea, Jason Fladlien is someone that really sticks out in my mind.

I've bought several of his courses and refer to them constantly. What I like about him is that all his stuff is incredibly actionable, realistic, and powerful...
  • Awesome! Yes, I'm sure you are a very "evolved" person if you can rely on yourself to mentor yourself. I totally understand and congratulate you!

    Anyone else?
  • My best and favorite mentor right now is george brown the owner of a product that I purchased trough clickbank, he made it happen for my first sale, THANKS!
  • Myself A P Geofrey, because I trust only myself, always have and always will.
  • Mike Filsaime for sure... I really admire how hes always pushing the envelope, launching new products, and trying new techniques.
  • I would say Frank Kern, have a had alot of influence in my marketing lately. I think Ryan Diess have also helped when it comes to social media
  • If I were starting out and knew absolutely nothing about IM, I'd go with Jeff Wellman for his thorough, down to earth approach that leaves no stone unturned - he has a knack for explaining things in a very clear and straightforward manner, which is understandable given the fact that he plunged into IM himself with next to no knowledge of how anything worked.
