What is your daily work ritual?

I'm interested to know what my fellow warriors do on a daily basis, more-so work wise, but anything is good. It helps me to piece together what other people's habits are and possibly pick up some of them up, the good ones, ofcourse. (always a plus).

So.. what does your day involve, do you split your day up into different sections so you can focus on getting different areas of work done?

Regards,
Ross.

Back to Computer, check membership sites and all web properties to make sure everything looks peachy
Make sure outsourcers are on track
    Workout at the Gym
    Muscle Milk and Lunch
then who knows...more work, lots more work, golf, whatever needs to be done

Wake up, turn on the computer, check emails and answer the most important ones. Have breakfast, give milk to my cat and start working until dawn. LOL. There are more details of the whole day but that was pretty much just it (well uh-Facebook updates check, analytics and adsense revenue check etc..) Writing more and more articles by the way and spending a bit of time in webanswers.

Sounds like you like your green tea nikki, lol. Yeah I remember you talked about the sites you sell on Flippa, in your own thread I believe. Business still good?

I usually do a mid-day workout before lunch to help me keep relaxed and feel nice for the rest of the day.

      • I have been trying many different things in terms of productivity with varying success.

My current routine is quite different than what most people have posted so far here.

I have been focusing on choosing the Most Important Task (Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done) that I want to complete for the next day the night before and planning it out in detail.

The next morning, I wake up around 4am (I am an early riser), I head straight out the door for some exercise. When I return, I take a shower or a bath, maybe eat a small breakfast, and then get right to work.

Most times, (unless my task calls for it) I won't even turn on my computer until 12:30pm. If I do have to use my computer, I don't open my email until 12:30pm.

I used to think that I was too big of a deal to let my emails sit and that my business would suffer because of it, but I have achieved so much more productivity this way.

Guess what? People don't mind waiting the extra 4-6 hours for an email response. If they are that anxious and put up a big fuss about it (none have yet), they are probably not the kind of people I want to be working with anyways...

I used to think I needed to be one of these 14 hour per day "grinders" who are glued to their computer chairs and drank coffee every minute of the day. But, when I started taking time for myself, relaxing, establishing strong routines and taking care of myself more, (more than 5 hours of sleep per night) I have gotten so much more done, my income has grown, I have so much more clarity and I am much more satisfied.

Now, these kinds of things may not work for everybody, but they are definitely something to look into.

Also as a side note - when following a more relaxed, fulfilling schedule like this, I have the "juice" stored so when I need to bang out a week of 15 hour work days non stop, I am ready for it and have the energy. I don't have any doubts that people can work long, hard hours like this for short periods of time, but I am skeptical that people who work 15-18 hours per day, every day are getting the most out of their time and are being as productive as they can be.

Can you tell personal productivity is one of my interests?

        I am just rambling now...

          .. then I check emails.

          make coffee, Brazilian filter.

Then do some website building stuff.

My routine changes. There are some things I do daily (like emails, order processing etc...) while other things I do every other day, weekly or even monthly. In every day I set asside "project" time when I work on new stuff, somedays project time may not a lot of time, some days its almost all day. The daily changes help my schedule from becoming mundane, and I find it helps me to be productive, leaving the project time for the end of the day (as that is usually my favorite).

Interesting thread. I never really paid much attention to my 'routine', mostly because I don't really feel it's consistent.

However, I do tend to get up, take care of a couple of house things, turn on the computer, and check emails and web stats.

From there, it really depends on where my focus is for that day.

Some days, I'm focused on creating new products. Other days, it's writing a new sales letter. At times, it's planning a new promotional campaign. Every so often, writing a new article to submit to a few hand-picked ezine sites.

I have a 'schedule' posted on my wall that I intend to follow "one of these days". It goes like this:
Monday: Write a new article / report.
Tuesday: Post article to own site(s), prepare viral edition for distribution & announce to current JV partners
Wednesday: Contact potential JV partners for new marketing
              Thursday: Product creation
              Friday: Fill in the gaps
I am moving closer and closer to this goal. Last year, I let product creation take over my life. This year, I'm working to balance that with more marketing.

              • Writing my article or articles for the day is the very first thing I do. My optimal writing time is first thing in the morning. I write 1 to 3 articles per day.
              • Then I create 1 to 5 quality backlinks for my 2 main websites.

After that, whatever needs to be done such as dealing with emails, site admin, publishing to article directories (I don't count this as quality link building), keyword research for the next day(s), exploring guest posting opportunities, and general planning. If time permits, I then enjoy myself on Warrior Forum or other forums.

On weekends, I don't always write articles and instead devote it to more forum participation and blog commenting.

    Get up.

Turn on computer and squint at it painfully in the dark until my eyes focus.
Try to make sense of my email. Don't respond to any yet as I haven't had coffee.
    Check my stats/analytics.
Feel guilty that I'm not making teenage son breakfast.
Go to the gym. (yes, really!)

After that, I look at my To Do list and start with the most important thing and work backwards.

Splitting the day - this is what it called... Now I know how to call what I do.
Well, basically, I get up, then I wake up, then have a light breakfast. Then go to my working room and either generate an idea or (if I have a good idea) make a plan how to realize the idea.
Then, I work according to the plan. If I finish early, I just have fun, have a walk or watch movies.
Then I sleep in the afternoon and after that I work if I feel like.

Basically, the main idea is to receive as little information as possible before starting work.

I devote my mornings to errands and other matters that need attention, break for a brief lunch. Then I spend my afternoon (from approximately 1-6 pm) to work online. This includes posting in my blogs, writing and submitting articles to various directories, including ezinearticles. Evening activities include watching tv and/or researching. Once in a while, I'll just open up and read a good humorous novel.

Better habit you can have is wake up early (see How to Become an Early Riser)

and also, a very uncommon good habit inside the IM is: don't go straight for e-mail, THEY CAN WAIT. Go for breakfast first and then go work on your priorities. Then, check e-mail 2 or 3 times/day not more.

Focus on what's important on your day. Breakfast is the one when you wake up and e-mail shouldn't be the next.

    My 2 cents

Thanks for the link to the article BenoitT, it was a good read. Funnily enough I've been trying to focus more on waking up much earlier recently. A hell of a lot more gets done during the day and night if I wake up early.

This brings me upto about 9pm

Study for an hour or so.. then the work begins.

I work from about 10pm-12pm . . exploring new niches, working on sites, manage outsourcing, etc..

That's about it.. through out the day I'm always checking and responding to emails.

Wake Up around 10:30, half an hour later than I should have woken up, fall asleep (standing) in the shower, start 1/2 hour walk to class (the walk wakes me up, I don't really mind it) sit in class, play around on my laptop if the lecture becomes boring, get breakfast/lunch write an article while waiting for my next class to start, go to that class, gym, dinner, come home, second dinner, improve my site a little bit, play video games, do homework, read, go to bed.

    * Switch on my laptop and frantically check my email for sales-reports and important emails.

    * Get out of bed.

    * Breakfast.

The rest is a blur. I do this, I do that - nothing is fixed for me. There's one thing I do know: my routine involves a lot of work and a lot of idling away on social networking and foruming.

And playing pool with friends in the evening is a must.

All this will change in a few days time though as I'm finally leaving my job to do IM full-time. I'll have a strict routine that I'll maintain.
