If i were to change my hosting service, will i lose my rankings? and if so, will it be permanent or will they return after a short period of time?

what is the best way to go about solving this problem without having to start again?

I moved all of my sites from one host to another and it did not have any effect on my rankings at all.

You won't lose any ranking or position by changing hosts. I'm assuming you mean moving from ... say... godaddy to namecheap, or Bluehost to hostgator. SERP has nothing to do with your hosting company.

No, you won't lose any SERP positions. Good luck with the move, we just moved and it was not smooth.

I just moved 4 WordPress blogs from one hosting account to another, simply to consolidate - I couldn't see the point of forking out to pay for two separate accounts. Moving hosting won't have any effect on your search engine standings, so please don't worry

If you move your webhost there will not be even a bit of decline in your
    ranking.
But make sure that your site don't have downtime during transfer , if your site gets down for 2-3 days due to host transfer it might effect your ranks.

When moving, don't forget your email accounts. Create them at your new host before changing name servers. To be extra cautious, you can forward a copy of your emails to a different existing email account until the move is complete.
