Are sales letter website pages over rated or over used?

In recent years all of the 'gurus' out there have been pushing sales letter pages with a squeeze page. Unfortunately just about everybody online has caught on to this method with many people not taking the time to ensure that their content is up to snuff. People are going online seeking information are getting inundated with sales letter after sales letter; after awhile they all begin looking the same and become less effective.

My questions to you guys and gals are as follows:

1. Are sales letter pages becoming over exposed?
2. If so, are they beginning to lose their effectiveness as a marketing tool due to so many of them being out there?
3. If you agree with my observation, what steps are you using to stand out?

Adding yet another looooonnnnggg sales letter page is not the answer. What do you think is the next best series of steps needed?

Check your calendar, Jared - it's only been a couple of days.

I think it's a mixed bag, they seem to be everywhere, but i don't feel they have lost their effectiveness. Few people have the patience to truly go through enough of these sales letter pages for them to start looking the same. However, i do think some advancements need to be made, as well as changes to make them even MORE effective, such as video, audio, etc.

    3. I think a video can say things better and quicker than any long sales letter, however I wouldn't use the video to replace the sales letter, but add to it.

My general thinking here is to stick with what works

To put it another way, If I come across a page that is out of the norm... I almost switch off assuming that the seller isn't quite "up to date" with how to present things. Perhaps Im wrong in thinking this and maybe we should all encourage a different take on sales pages. However right now, I'm just happy with what I got
