How many hours do you put into your home business?

I put in around 6 hours per day to marketing and 2 hours on the phone. When I first got started, I could only put in 3 to 4 hours daily and another 8 to 16 hours on the weekend.

A good rule of thumb (for me) was that 20 percent of what I did actually brought me the results. The other 80 percent was just a waste and had me spinning my wheels.

Find what really works for you and spend more time doing it. I wouldn't over work yourself. When you are tired, you get out of 'flow' and that can waste your time.

I would say I invest at least 50 hours of my time each week. I need to slow done a bit and lower it to maybe 30 hours.

Way to many hours - between internet marketing and consulting i would say easily 70 hours per week. But that's only because I am developing 3 niches at the same time right now and constantly have ideas what else needs to get done. With 5 additional people working for me who also put in a solid 8 hours or more per day that racks up to A LOT of stuff getting done. - In the year 2012 I hope to bring those hours down to about 10 per week and let my employees do the rest

You gotta be hands-on if you are treating it like your business.. If not, it's just a side-line.

Even if you outsourced most of your stuff, we should inject most of our time on how to improve our business conversion and stuff.

I only sleep 6 to 8 hours and I have a real problem on time management... tons of emails to be answered daily from customers to my writers and vice versa... spending lots of time on research for customers' articles...

Some massive amounts of hours being mentioned here......but in a way thats nice to hear.....and i bet those that put the hours in are making some decent returns...eventually.

Its important for newbies to know that it might take some time to start generating a turnover and then some profits.....and that to sustain it initially will take some effort too.

Take action, keep going and modify and correct yourself as you go and you can make it.....but never....never give up....that is the only sure fire way of failing!

Too many hours, according to my husband. Easily 12-14+ hours a day, 6 days a week. But I made three sales this week, two of which were on the same day! So I told him, 'See? That's why I spend so much time in the office!'

Most of the time I'm marketing the business, looking for some fresh content either for the site or for the blog, setting up my Twitters to run for at least 12 hours ahead of time, visiting forums...

Yes, if you want your business to succeed, you're going to put in more time than you would working for someone else. Corporations have Marketing & Advertising departments, purchasing and shipping departments, inventory and QA. Since I make and ship my own products, I have to do it all, and it can't all be done in an 8-hour period unless I want this business to fail.

So when I get orders in, I have to switch department modes to design, pack and ship. Then I can go back to marketing or head over to purchasing to restock my inventory.

Fortunately I don't get a ton of phone calls for orders. Unless the customer has something really specific to ask me about, it can all be done online and through email. But when a call does come in, I step into my customer service department and handle that too.

But I'll echo what others have said - if you want to succeed, you have to put the time into it almost daily, especially with online businesses. And you can't ever give up!

My home business is at least 10 hours x 7 or 70 hours a week. I think the key to success is having passion about your business. It's hard to imagine not putting in this amount of time. You're the sales person, support person, marketing person.

My schedule has been a bit harder, 16 hours per day, 7 days a week for nine months.
12 cups of coffee and a packet of fags a day.
I gotta stop this soon before it starts affecting my health.

Lucky for me, I had to give up caffeine years ago and I quit smoking two years ago, which gave more time to concentrate on the business because there is no smoking inside our house. Although I do drink a whole "pot" of decaf coffee per day. I got a huge 40-cup Brewstation for Christmas; fill it to 20 in the AM, gone by the end of the day. :rolleyes:

  I don't need to put in much time since I don't use a blog, or do SEO type marketing.
  
  I do it the old fashioned way and talk to people via Facebook, Twitter, business cards and face to face, and I drive them directly to my website for a free trial.
  
  I only take about 4 hours a day to follow up and talk to prospects and my distributors.

When I started my first company, I spent every waking hour learning the ropes and making mistakes. I learned my lesson there so I hired a coach to help me develop this company (in a different industry) a lot faster. It's still a lot of work in the beginning. I have experienced the payoff!

I usually invest about 5 hours a day. But, if needed, I go over time. It really depends on the work load for the week. There are dull weeks, there are busy weeks... and sometimes, I also have lazy weeks.

I put in about 16-18 hours a day 7 days a week. But I do a number of different things to, not just IM.

For instance, I do security research "reverse engineering malware and finding vulnerabilities in software and scripts" along with freelancing, application development and offline consulting. So I keep pretty busy but I love what I do too. It's not really work to me.

And trust me, when I take a vacation it's a good one. I spend more on my 2 week vacations per year, than most people make in a year.

I try to put in between 32 and 48 hours a week. I get sidetracked pretty easily with family, friends, hanging out on my forum, and researching, so I don't always manage to put a full 40 in. I'm working on getting better about dealing with distractions though.

When I started back in 2003 I used to put in about 60-70 hours per week to learn as much as I could... but now a lot of what I'm doing is on AutoPilot. What I've found is it's best to focus on just one project at a time and avoid getting distracted. Now I work whenever I want to work, so if I'm on a new project I will sometimes work 40+ hours per week and then take a month or two off. Hope that helps. David.

Yeah it seems the amount of time spent online tends to increase without necessarily increasing productivity.
I try to do shorter bursts of an hour or two in between working my bricks and mortar business and having a life.
I would say I out in about three hours each and every day on top of what is required. But it is refreshing to have three days away from the screen once a month.

When I started in 1999 - it was every waking hour just about - for 2 years - nothing but hardcore working.

Now, I do my best to stay on a schedule of at LEAST 10am - 5pm Mon - Friday. And after the children are in bed, I'm usually around the computer, I'll do some work, but I don't require myself to. =)

Ill spend a month where I am doing 100 hour weeks, then I will spend a month doing 10-20 hour weeks as I travel. The best part about this job is you can choose when and where you work. But I still work just as much as I did in a real job. Plus the more you work the more you earn...

I do it whenever I can. I don't really count how many hours I do but it's how much work I get done and what needs to be done. I guess if you really love what you're doing, time just flies and sometimes there's not enough hours in a day.
