Affiliates - for how many of you does this issue cause concern...?

Most affiliate products come complete with a good toolbox including sales page.

How many of you have concerns about losing conversions owing to the likely chance of an opt-in box on the sales page of the product/s you're working hard to promote? and how do you tackle this potential problem?

I'm considering the issue from both your own opt-in, or from no opt-in. I'm guessing the issue may not be so significant if you have your own opt-in

  • I don't promote anything with an opt in box on the sales page for precisely that reason.

The only exception is where I know the marketer has a good lead tracking and I trust them not to abuse the lead. For instance, there are a few exceptions who use Nanacast with lifetime affiliate tagging, who I'm happy to give up the lead too, as I know I will be paid repeatedly down the line. But, not many exceptions.

The only thing you can do about it is to have your own opt-in in your site. You know that the vendor will probably has its own and there is nothing you can do about this.
If your prospects subscribe to your list you do not lose the chance to sell (even if they also subscribe at the vendors' list).

If I know that the merchant has good tracking and is going
to follow-up promoting the product that I sent them to the
website for, then I don't have a problem... I realize that most
prospects aren't going to buy on the first visit.

If I don't like the setup, but really like the product, I ask
the merchant to set me up a page without the opt-in box.

I don't do these kind of website, because they aren't converting for me.
but there is one exception and that is when the product is really really really great.

    Hi Ian,

Maybe you haven't seen it, but we recently had a rather big thread on this exact question, with a poll attached. Something like 100+ posts, and nearly 200 votes, as I remember. Every possible perspective discussed in great detail. I can't immediately find it, but it will clearly interest you greatly.

Edited to add: Here we are - I found it.
