Name your price? Opinions?

I did this on my first product launch and the majority of people did not pay the lowest price.

I said something to the effect of "Hey I think this is worth $30-$40 easy. But I know times are tough and some people need to pinch pennies. So I'm going to let you name your own price. If you need to pay less than a 10 spot, that's cool, but if you think it's worth it and will save you lots of time then how about bumping it up a bit:

$9.95
$14.95
$19.95
$24.95
$29.95

Most people chose $14 or $19.

Has anyone else ever done anything like this? What results did you get?
