Is my Site Wretched or What??

Hi everyone,

I am getting frustrated because I have been wanting to get my facebook "Like" count up and it is just sitting on rock bottom and has not budged for atleast a week. NOT even 1 like!!!

Is it wretched or something?? Is my Like Box placed in a way that it is invisible?? I am getting REALLY frustrated and could greatly use some help.

BTW, I get about 200 visits per day and 350 Page views and out of all that I can't get a single "Like" per day?????? Something has to be wrong.

If someone could please add www and .com to my username and comment on this I would be very appreciative.

Thanks a bunch in advance

It looks nice to me ... good layout. As for Facebook likes, I don't bother with Facebook, so don't know. Maybe you need a like button closer to the top of the column.

you got feedback on your site in the last thread you made.

All the people I see getting the most facebook traffic they are all doing the same thing - regular updates with good quality, useful free information.

    • Thanks SpikeS...

I would like to add: First of all the reply you just posted sorta infuriates me.

I DO (that means D.O. add regular updates with good quality, useful free information.

Sorry, But yea... That kinda rubbed me the wrong way. My site is LOADED with unique, relevant, useful info that is NOT scraped off of other sites and the site is something I bust my tail on a sickening number of hrs per day on research of SEO etc and topics to write about that are NOT scraped.

      And it IS updated frequently

Chill out he gave an opinion of what he knew other people were doing. I hope you don't come across this way in your content, unique or not I for one would not like it.

        • Sorry Steve M and SpikeS...

I'm just as frustrated as can be right now because a primary competitor who's site is not even as high of quality (SpikeS has seen it) has shot to over 4K likes in a couple weeks while I have been struggling for a year or better and havent hardly topped 300... Kinda frustrates me to say the least.

I mean I am already boiling over this and to receive that comment just sent me over the top.

          • theantihype... i appreciate the idea...

Actually Google Analytics doesn't show Bots I dont think...

My GA traffic is usually right about 200 per day but my server's traffic logs can be 350- 400 (which the extra 150-200 might be bots I agree) but the 200 was a Google Analytics number.

I do welcome coments from everyone on this...

BTW, Are the "Tabs" on the left like invisible??? I've been about to make a Like box about 500px by 500 px and put it top center of every page for a month.

Sheeesh... I am putting way to much into this also I know. I should be focusing on my own site...

One more thing... SpikeS... Sorry again for going ballistic but with the incredible amount of time I put into this site to make sure it is getting quality content uploaded on a regular basis it just kinda hit me the wrong way with the comment... No biggie tho'

I am not sure if you are aware of this but did you know you can go to page edit>Apps>edit app..and in the drop down box for the welcome page you can specify that first time visitors Have to hit the Like button before they can view the content on your page?

I get about 8 likes a day that way and no one has ever unliked it after reading the page. Hope that helps.

Can you pm me the site to see? Also have you ever thought that maybe your competitor has brought his likes, or is using some shady click jacking script where they always like?

But if he only has 4000 likes I dont think he would be buying them, as he would buy a lot more surely.

Your site looks OK to me bro. I like the layout, but what are you trying to move?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3649850].message }}
    • Hi Steve M... I tried to PM you but cannot because I have to have 50 posts... Can u PM me an email address and I'll send it that way??

Seobro... Thank you very much for the comment. My goals are to be able sell product via affiliate links (I am working on keeping affiliate links to a min also and I am remaning focused on one advertiser that I am reaching thru CJ and the advertiser is MotoSport.)

Also, I would like to sell some of the Mad Skills games, which there is a link to on the home page and other places throughout the site.

Then... To put the icing on the cake, I am hoping to attract contractual advertising.

The reason I am so into running my Like count up into the stratosphere is because I feel that if I have a Like box sitting on my site with xx,xxx likes (or better) that this may attract advertisers and work as a "Pre-Seller" because the MotoSport links arent moving either.

      Thanks again everyone.

      • Steve, I just got your PM and attempted to send you the email I wrote as a reply but the system still kicks it back and says I must have 50 posts to my name B4 such priveledge's are allowed...

Do you have FB where I could send it via FB message??

I was looking for this option but don't see it. Is what you are describing akin to creating a custom Landing page for new visitors?? if so I already have that but I do very much appreciate your suggestion.

          • Steve,

I am now able to post links here I learned so I will do so:

Here is the email I wrote to send via PM

            Hi Steve,

Thank you so much for your offer to help.

My site can be seen here:

Motocross, Off-Road & FMX Info for Dirt Bike Riders & Enthusiasts

and my competitor in reference can be seen here:

Dirt Bike Tips, Information And Entertainment For Enthusiasts!

You will likely notice an incredibly strong similarity between the 2 sites and that is because we are both from the same host and program that teaches newbies how to write a site from scratch.

I have just been getting frustrated with seeing his Like count go up by the hundreds every day while mine which I update much more frequently sits seemingly unnoticed everyday.

I am primarily interested in getting my likes up (with likes from people interested in my niche) so as to hopefully use that as a "Pre-Seller" and as something which may attract advertisers (sort of like Page Rank)

Thanks again and I look forward to your advice.

Sorry but I had to look for the facebook thing on the left hand side and even though I use FB every day for personal stuff I wouldn't have known what that was along the left hand side if I wasn't looking for it. Yeah, it's "invisible" to me... I don't know what it is or what I'm supposed to do with it... I would have thought that it brought you to your facebook page and if I'm there to read about adreniline I wouldn't want to click on it.

In my eyes, people who aren't into Facebook marketing and who are on FB might be more likely to click on a "Like" button that looks like the button inside of FB... just my two cents though

Have you thought of marketing inside of FB or using a different icon at the top of the page? Maybe upper right hand corner?

It also looks like your competition has been around since 2005 while you (c) a the bottom of your site says that you've had the site since 2009. He also has an opt-in above the fold with an offer for a free screensaver.

Just a couple of other things that I've noticed...

From the previous posts you have made I can only assume you will get offended, but please take it as constructive criticism.

Your competitors site is better and deserves the likes.

First let's start with the obvious, his site is a better design. All the grey is very plain on your site, their dark colors, and targeted header really works well.

There facebook widget is placed in a great spot. Most web visitors read websites not from the top left to the bottom left, but rather from the top left to the bottom right. His facebook app is right in this cross. Yours is hidden under the navigation and is camouflaged into the grey content and grey background.

    ------------------
Definitely try a darker background, look up some website tile patterns and pick a cool grungy looking image.

    ------------------

Also, it looks like your competitor gets 3X more traffic... and has been at the game longer

    hope that helped

    Stuart,

I'm a biker that prefers choppers but I still have a love for MX from my misspent youth.

Your content is great and would be of help to my cousin who is an active rider. However, your brilliant content is let down by 3 things.

    1) When I landed on the website I didn't know what to click. This is a problem as you need to guide your visitors all the way. When I pushed myself to click a menu option I found the actual content, which was great. Add a clear instruction above the sidebar menu.

    2) Your site has great content and it is real usable stuff. However, there are no big pictures. What drags me in to sites like that are the pictures, but I'll stay for the articles. You need big pictures on every page of whatever you are talking about.

    3) I couldn't find a button to like it on Facebook

I think if you fix those issues (as I see them) then your site will do very well.

Just don't forget that adrenaline junkies are very visual. They need the information in your articles but the pictures will get them reading.

Also you were a bit of an ass-hat earlier in the thread, but it was in defense of your content. I like that, it shows dedication

    Cheers,
    Colin Palfrey

    • Hi everyone,

I just wanted to give a thanks to Steve Bretski, LMC and Colin for some excellent points. I am going to be working on these today. I REALLY REALLY appreciate your excellent advice all of you.

LMC... Im not sure that I agree with my competitors site being better but ya know... I didnt get offended either although I did sit up and "exhale" but I still tank you for your advice.

As far as lacking pics Colin?? Yea... I know... I just havent gotten to the pics yet because I want to get some more content and then go back over and add pics... I'm just holding out on that because I don't currently have any that are truly High enough quality without background noise (people walking by, etc)

Again... I do Thank you all for all your wonderful help and if anyone would like to comment further, I would certainly welcome such comments.

Thanks again everyone!! (and sorry if I missed anyone)

      • BTW, Would it look "abnoxious" if I replaced all of my 300x250 Ads with a like box? Is that placement area not really an attractive slot for such a thing??

I have always wondered if a Like box there in place of the ad would look ok (and ditch the narrow one below my nav bar)

getting visitors is nothing, you need to get your visitors interested in your Facebook Fan page and the easiest way to get is that you make any good contest, and make people like your Fan page, that way they are in the contest. Contests like give-away of $5, $10 etc., all legit would be nice.

I've like 23580+ likes atm, like this only.

    • Hi Stepman...

I have tried similar things with encouraging others to help Your Adrenaline Fix get to 1000 likes and once there someone at random would win a commercially produced video which is a hot item in my niche but noone budged...

Also, I don't quite understand the last part of your post about "
I've like 23580+ likes atm, like this only." Could you clarify on that for me??

Also.. If I were to do a contest it would certainly be legit as I would never want to risk my reputation being sleezy and on top of that I would hope a "Random" winner might talk well about my site... Kinda a 2 birds with one stone philosophy

      Thanks!!

      • Would it seem like overkill if I added a 300x250 Like Box near the top of my pages where there is presently an ad block and left the like box under my navbar??

Also, arent the Tabs sticking out the left side of the page obvious??

I really appreciate everyone's help and I look forward to more comments.

        Thanks again.
