Just Because You Say It's So..

When you share your experiences, and support
them with what you describe as facts, you have
a huge responsibility.

Unfortunately, not everyone will question and
challenge what you say. Many people will take
you literally. They may blindly follow what you
suggest without understanding the entire process
or context.

Sharing experiences, tests, experiments is one of
the many things that makes this forum such a
great place.

However, please bear in mind that just because
you say it is so, doesn't mean that your results
or outcomes can be replicated by someone else.

And, from the other side of the coin.. please don't
assume that you can implement someone else's
suggestion. You are probably missing a lot of
information.

Another thing to add here to what John said is that just because you have not had much if any success doing a specific thing or technique does not mean that the technique or tactic does not work.

I see a lot of comments and statements here made about how something just does not work and then they go on to explain why they failed and make generalizations about why they are right and why "it" just doesn't work.

NO. This is very important what John said. It works both ways in that some people will take what you say literally and never try it. They may have experiences and insights that you do not which they can make a fortune with the exact samething that has been stated does not and can never work.

It makes me sad to see that but it is something that is common to find, not just here at the warrior forum either.

I am not saying don't share your thoughts but when you present them as absolutes which some here do, you are doing grievous harm to those that are reading your posts. It didn't work for you fine, explain why and what you tried then leave it up for others to make their own judgements.

Thank you for reading my post.

Good post John. I was discussing a similar idea with my husband today. We were talking about various high profile IM courses, programs, etc. He is fairly skeptical about these things, but I was arguing that a lot of them DO work... BUT they require considerable work and trial and error.

In other words, many products are sold on the basis that 'if you follow these steps you will be successful'. What they don't emphasize (logically, as it would undermine sales) is that each of those steps takes a good deal of effort.

I mean "put a website up" is a fairly simple concept... but actually doing so may be very challenging depending on your skills, resources, etc. Easy for some... challenging for others... intimidating for others...

It also depends on your personality type. Different methods suit different people. Some people are very technical and suck at sales, others are great at innovating but can't stand the details. You really do have to figure out what your core area of comfort is, center your activities around these strengths, and extend your comfort zone out from there as you acquire the necessary new skills.

Conversely, someone may post a recipe for a cake they absolutely love, that others will find not to their tastes.

Such as First Turn Oven On. That isn't ever in recipe's I have ever read. LOL

I had a girlfriend that tried to make grilled cheese sandwiches. She did everything correct EXCEPT take the plastic wrap off the cheese slices. Was really nasty.

I asked her why she didn't and she said she didn't know she had to. DUH!

There are a lot of things expecially in IM that people think are common sense. I have found that there is not such thing as common sense, it is more like uncommon sense. At least from my experience.

I guess my main complaint when it comes to the topic of this thread is that people that have made up their mind about something, right or wrong but from their experience their perspective it just does not work and can never work. Then they come here to acknowledge they don't know and make damaging statments that I am very sure has hurt people by turning them off of something that they themselves never have tried.

Essentially making a false belief based off of someone elses incompetence and/or ignorance without finding out for themselves if it works for them or not. There is a lot of information and things to know, not everyone knows everything about every possible thing to know about making money on the internet. It just irks me when people make statments of fact to them, which does considerable harm to new folks coming on the scene.

I see statements like " I don't know anything about XYZ but I am glad I read Blanks post about it because now I know not to waste my time on that." Why? Because "Blank" had such and such experience means you will to?

I don't know. I have worked with MANY IMers over the years and I can give you a dozen contrary experiences to anything anyone can come up with. I can show multi-millionaires self made from earning a living online as well as posers that say they make millions and yet are going through bankruptcy or state income claims that are not based in reality and many enjoy talking about here, to the point of false beliefs and judgements that EVERYONE does not make money or 6+ figures. Just isn't true. There are plenty of people that do not and there are many that do.

I guess it is the belief that if I can't see it then it obviously isn't possible mentality that I find very disturbing and makes me want to avoid everyone that has that point of view.

Those are my rants for today.
