Some questions about pdf file. Need some help please...

Hi all,

I've just finished writing up an e-book. I have a few questions that some kind souls can help me out here.

Q1) I'm just wondering is it ok to copy another site's copyright and disclaimer statements or is this considered plagiarism?

Q2) Is there a pdf software where I can edit my word document in pdf format? I find that in word format, my e-book looks ok but when I transfer to pdf format, the format of the e-book has changed. The words on one page will run into the next page. It looks messy.

Q3) How do I upload this pdf file to my site since I'm using a wordpress blog? I have my own hosting. I've done this for a static site but not for a blog. Some advice please..

Q1) I don't see a problem modeing the copyright and discalimer. Note, I said "model" because you may want to make sure what you write is properly dated. Any works you produce are automatically copyrighted when you use the "copyright and date" terms. No forms need to be filed.

Q2) Editing a pdf is not for the faint of heart. You can do some minor editing with the full version of Adobe Acrobat. I have a high-end product (Enfocus Pitstop) that is an Acrobat plugin but I'm thinking it would be way beyond your needs.

PDF files are better left alone unless you have the right tools. If you are getting format changes when distilled from Word, you either need to change the page setup or adjust your paragraphs before distilling the pdf. I have seen things similar to what you describe when making pdf from Word.

My personal preference is not to use anything but the Adobe Acrobat pdf print driver to create a pdf.

Q3) I presume you want to link to your pdf from the blog. There was a post earlier today about how to link to files. See the topic in this forum today titled "Technical Question re. download link posted y Mignight-Eden.

    2) It's surprising it has changed, unless the page size in your PDF settings is different to your page size under Page Setup in Word?

I usually don't see much change, although items like floating text boxes in Word can shift a little in the final pdf output.

Have you tried opening your Word doc in, say, the free OpenOffice program and then doing a 1-click pdf export? Your text might be really tight/close to the page margins, so that might cause your problems.

I usually create my pdf's from InDesign, so that's never an issue for me, so I don't see your issue that often.

    3) Uploads in Wordpress just like a photo -- use the "media" button in your post/page editing area to upload your file, Wordpress should recognise it as a pdf straight away without you doing anything. You can then create a link title etc.

    Lydia,

Editing large amounts of text in a pdf can be a total pain and I totally agree with the previous responders that you need to look at making adjustments so that the pdf has a similar layout to the previous document.

However sometimes one does need to make small edits in pdf documents and I find Nitro PDF Professional very good for this. At $99, it's much cheaper than Adobe Acrobat. Link here - Nitro PDF Professional

I'd suggest downloading the trial of the professional adobe acrobat. It is fully functional for 30 or 60 days, which is enough time for you to get this book finished, and use the profits from it to pay for adobe if you plan on doing more

An alternative, as was mentioned here is to port the document into openoffice, get it looking how you want, and then publishing it as a pdf through there.

    Good luck!

      Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback. I'll try exporting to open office first as someone has suggested.

As for the file upload, I'll try and see how it goes.

      Thanks much
