Hey all,

I was hoping for a little advice. I've only been a member a short while but have been doing my thing online for over a year. I work freelance for a few companies/clients and have my own brand helping craft business owners.

The thing is, although I have a LOT of knowledge in this niche from my past experience as a successful craft seller, I don't do the selling anymore and therefore am not super passionate about the subject.

I have almost 3000 subscribers and so it's hard because I don't want to walk away but I also want to shift my focus to showing others how to earn a living online (totally saturated I know but truthfully, I've been lucky to land tons of freelance work (currently earn over 3K a month with 1 company @ 20 hours a week), create and sell products to my subscribers (raking in 2-3K per launch), land various blog writing jobs (premium, aka 15 cents a word) and so on and think I could bring some new perspective to the scene).

The thing with these sellers is many of them will never make it full time due to the products they make or the way they photograph and present them (as nice as they might be). They might have started their business in hopes of earning enough income to quit their day job or just have enough so they can stay home with their kids so they are alot like me.

So... I could either start a new brand and invite current readers to subscribe there if they are interested in that sort of thing OR I could shift the focus of my current site/brand and let them know (welcoming anyone whose not interested to unsubscribe (aka getting the wrong people off my list anyway)).

Thanks in advance for your advice!

oh...or keep both brands up... but time is an issue as well.

    • Get a blogger to take over for your last list (or any writer for that matter).

It will keep your list happy and you can incentivize the blogger by paying him or her a portion of your earnings from the list.

I did the exact same thing with my old blog of 10,000 subscribers and now I blog about making money online and building traffic.

thanks Chris. I never considered that... I guess I'm just not really wanting to keep up both but I'll think on that because it would be a shame to lose a thousand or two people who do like to buy on occasion. thanks

Or you could always sell what you currently have if you truly don't want to keep up with both.

Think of it like this. Style (Neil Strauss, the writer of The Game) has a mailing list for people interested in the seduction community.

Does he ever write any of the newsletters? No! He's too busy off doing other stuff. However, he realises that it's profitable business to continue, even if it's someone else writing the newsletters or providing the information.

He also realises that although he rarely gets involved in the pick-up side of things now, the fans, followers, subscribers etc... will be interested in anything he does. So when it comes to promoting his new book about rock stars, or the first book from his independent publishing company, he not only pitches his products to them, but he also utilises them spread the word and generate interest.

If its profitable, dont give it up. Just outsource it. Act as 'guest writer' when you feel the need. But ultimately keep part of the profits at all time.

I would definitely keep both brands and outsource anything I didn't feel like spending time on. Profit share for the first list seems quite reasonable for keeping some quality writers on staff. Is there a gentle way to communicate with those artists whom you feel cannot be successful that you were once like them- but now you see what really works and you want to help them out? Move the potential successes over to your new brand in a positive way?

Try to focus your time on what is really important for you at this moment. You can outsorce the othe things. You are a succefull freelancer so help a small freelancer by giving him something to work.
