How Do I Permanently Erase or Delete Links?

Hi everyone!
I am having a problem with deleting links on my website. For example: I deleted some pages from my site, but the permalinks that pointed to those pages still show up in Google, then it appears as a broken link because the page no longer exists. (404 error)

Is there a special procedure I can use in the future that will erase these links completely if I delete a post or article from my site?

And what about the existing broken links, how do I find all of them, and how do I permanently delete them?

Thank you for your help!
Ruth M

Look at the Google Webmaster tools. I think you can do that in there.

Sounds like you only removed the cache. If so, it the links will be deleted over time - when next they are crawled.

You can also submit a complete removal request, read about it here.

Hi - you can also request a visit from the google bots on the webmaster tools. That might help to speed up the update.

    Ruth,

One thing you can do to RETAIN the visitor even if you've deleted the content from your site is to redirect that 404 page to your main site or blog.

The person is, after all, clicking to get through to your site. Why not make it easy for them and stop them going elsewhere.

    Just a thought
