I would like to 'try' / Make money writing articles for people...But...

I want to become as good as possible (obviously). The problem is, I don't know whether I am good enough and can't really afford to lose the money to try. At least not yet.

Can anyone offer some help, maybe it's just a confidence issue?

Is it as simple to try this method as it seems?

Well - Article writing isn't very lucrative - but if you can read and write in basic english, you can do article marketing

I'd say give it a shot: You miss 100% of the opportunities you never take!

There is article writing and then there is article writing. I charge $20 per article for what I do, but I've been doing it for years and I provide well researched, well put together articles which get people to bookmark sites and stick with you.

Many cheap article writers write fluff which is good for article directories and the like but which isn't going to be the best quality stuff for putting up on your website.

Now as long as you can write English, you can certainly make money doing the cheap, fluff type articles. Anyone who can string a sentence together can do that. However, those kinds of articles simply don't pay very well (you'll get around $2-$5 each). If you want to sell quality, you need to build yourself a reputation so that people know they can trust you and that you're worth spending the money on.

Ultimately however, the only way you'll know for sure is to simply jump in and give it a shot...

Yes, like a balancing act where you weigh a volume versus quality strategy. Obviously, quality will always serve you better in the long run (reputation = higher charge to write) but if you can crank out 5-10 mediocre articles a day, it can certainly put a bit of immediate coin in your pocket.

I also say give it a shot, but this has become a very competitive field over the last few years.

Only on the low budget end of the field. The competition is more about quantity and dirt cheap pricing. If that's your competition, then you're in the wrong profession.

Thanks for all your answers, there is some good advice here.

I have got some good CTR through Ezine and have written for someone else, on a subject I knew about. I can write but I guess it's a question self worth and confidence.

I am willing to research a subject and learn to write good articles.

English is also my first language.

Article writing and article marketing aren't as lucrative as they used to be years back, however they still form as essential part of an Internet marketers marketing arsenal.

Doing article marketing as a business model provides a few different opportunities for you, and especially as your first language is English, you have nothing to lose.

      1) You could operate your own business with affiliate offers being the main monetization model, which requires a lot of regular writing of articles for yourself, and publishing them on the main articles directory sites. This takes a lot of time and effort (to create good quality content) with what is essentially a relatively poor return

      2) You could easily set yourself up as an article writer for hire. Other Internet marketers will generally pay you nicely for good quality original content. You could expect to hire yourself out for $4-$30 per article depending on the length of the article, the subject matter, and the exclusitivity of the article.

      3) You could write a whole lot of articles and then sell them as a bundle of PLR articles on a site you create. This has the power to create a far better income as you could probably sell a bunch of 10 x articles for around $10-$15, but you could sell them to perhaps 50-100 different Internet marketers, thereby maximizing your return

      4) Another business model you could do around article marketing, is work with your local businesses that are crying out for internet marketing expertise. You could for a set monthly fee $150-$200 per month offer to write 2-3 articles per month for them about their business (indirectly without being self promotional), and publish them to the article directory sites within that monthly fee. If you managed to build up 30 clients over a couple of months, that means for about 60-90 articles per month you'd be making around $4500-$6000 per month

Hope these article marketing business ideas get your thought processes underway.

      Warren

I like the last idea though I'm not sure how to go about it whilst making it profitable to the companies.

Separately, where would you advise I start out, if I want to write articles for cash? The warrior forum? I don't want to lose money-that's all.

I don't see how it's possible for you to lose money when getting started. All you need to invest is time. Nevermind that time = money

The first thing you need to do is get some samples together. That's the first thing anyone is going to ask you to provide. If you've already published articles in a directory or somewhere, you can simply give them links.

There are plenty of ways to get started. You can bid on jobs at vworker.com. Do as someone else suggested and put an ad in the Warriors for Hire section. Or do what I did...send someone a PM when they ask about finding writers.

"Do, or do not. There is no try." - to quote Yoda, Jedi Master!

Firstly, to those who have mentioned that article writing/marketing is "not as lucrative as it once was", what proof do you have of this?

I can guarantee there are many, many article writers out there who do very well for themselves. They may not even be the best at what they do, but they are able to offer a unique and interesting perspective on a variety of subjects and earn a very decent living to boot.

As for the competitive nature of the beast, I have to agree with Tina on this one. There is a huge amount of competition at the lower end of the market, but in all honesty are these the type of people you wish to compete with? (And are these the type of clients you wish to work for?)

Perhaps, you have a confidence issue, but we have all, at some point, feared being shot down in flames. However, until you take that first step...you will never know.

There are various places where you can advertise your services, such as here at WF, although I would always suggest, that if you are serious about this, that you have your own website. Simply by building your own website, learning how to promote it, can do wonders for both your confidence and your writing skills.

I, also, quite liked the fact that you have spoken about "writing for someone else on a subject that I know about". This is possibly another option for you, i.e. specialising in a certain niche or subject. You may not need to be the greatest writer, but if you are knowledgeable and can discuss matters from your own perspective, your articles should, at least, be interesting to read.

This, unfortunately, is a dying art IMHO, and this is especially true amongst many of the single-digit article writers (note I said many, not all, although I'm not sure it was an art form with these writers in the first place!).

Personally, I'm a great believer in education, but equally so in taking action. You have the perfect educational resource at your fingertips in the shape of this very forum (where is Nicole Lane, and her brilliant copy & paste thread about the great article writers/marketers of this forum, when you need her ).

Listen to Yoda (my first line) - if you fail to take action, you will never know, will you? However, if you do have an almighty fail, pick yourself up, dust yourself down, aim to improve your skills, before deciding whether or not this is the right niche for you.

    Cheers
    Partha

Do you have any writing samples? Have you written articles for yourself? Let someone review your articles, and then ask them for their opinion about the quality.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3666292].message }}

I agree with most of the above but if you lack the confidence in yourself and your writing I think you need to work on that first.

Your initial post does ooze with a lack of confidence in your abilities. Think of it this way though... what is the worst thing that could happen? You write some sample articles, people don't like them and they don't hire you. You have lost nothing other than a little time and effort.

On the flip side though, you could write some articles and people fall in love with your writing! You have people begging you to write for them. Women fall at your feet and wish to bear your love child thanks to your writing skills.

Honestly though, with the state of the market and the number of people looking for quality article writers I believe that there is a place for you out there if that is your passion. Yes, there are VA's that can pump out articles for chump change but, for the most part, they are producing articles that would need to be heavily rewritten to be acceptable for me.

    OK

I think I can do this.

So if I write 5 samples on various topics...I have something to show potential clients.

Where would be the best place to offer my services? I wish i could afford to register everywhere but I just can't.

Hi there Theone24, why don't you try Andrew Kryzak's How I Sell Each Article For $97?

I am not affiliated with him nor did I buy his course.

But, I think that can answer your question, since you asked writing articles for people.

Otherwise, start writing articles for affiliate marketing. It can be lucrative. Trust me.

The problem is, I don't know whether I am good enough ...
You already have the insecurity, the hallmark of a of many successful professional writers.

Go for it. Just start writing. Standards are low right now. You can make an easy $5 for 500 words.

Everyday read something about grammar. Then spend fifteen minutes adding new words to your vocabulary and read a bit from a good novel and an online newspaper.

If you write a lot and actively educate yourself, you'll find your stride and feel secure enough to charge more. (Maybe $6 per 500 words.)

Just an observation and by no means am I an expert.

To promote your services free. you could go to fivver.......also, google fivver clone sites. Sign up to all those on the first 10 google pages. Go to all the marketing forums like this and sign up for free promote yourself. Go to craigslist and post a resume saying your looking for article writing work in all the small cities. Google craigslist gigs and put in article marketer, writer, etc in the search engine and see if someone is looking for writers. Promote and look for jobs. Elance is free to sign up to look for work I think, go to the freelance sites. Do the same thing. It is all free. Is warrior for hire section free? Post your service there if it is. Go to social network sites and promote, like linkedn, facebook, myspace, etc. Hopefully, that is enough to get you started.

    Presentation is everything.

What you can do is read lots of articles from famous bloggers on the niche you are interested.Observe carefully how they go to deep in the articles to make an impression. Then try to write in the same way.Probably you will find lots of difficulties or it may take lots of hours to generate an article like that. But it will be more easy when you will write more on a regular basis.
