What Should You First Do As An Affiliate?

Today, I got asked a great question by someone new to affiliate marketing.

He was overwhelmed by all the different promo methods there are available to affiliate marketers and wanted to know if he needed to set up his own website first or get started some other way.

Because so many newbies get info overwhelm (I know I did - and still do sometimes!) I thought it would be a good idea to share the advice I gave him on the forum as well.

Building a list is important, no matter what niche you're in. So even if you're totally new to affiliate marketing, work on getting your own squeeze page and blog up and running (I have two separate domains for this).

While you're doing that, you can start promoting affiliate offers at the same time to begin making money online right away. Here are a few ways to promote affiliate offers without a website:

Video Marketing

Make short funny and/or controversial (i.e. buzz worthy) videos and upload them to Youtube. They don't have to be long. I have one that is only 7 seconds long it the view count is starting to really climb - it's over 10,000 views now

In the description of your video, place your affiliate link to a relevant offer.

Social Networking

Twitter and Facebook are great places to find people that are interested in what you're promoting. As long as you don't spam people and have the mindset of wanting to help others, you'll do well.

I wouldn't recommend using your Facebook profile to do your affiliate marketing, but instead set up a free Facebook page for your niche.

Forums

Find the most popular 2 or 3 forums in your niche, set up an account and put your affiliate link in your signature (since you're reading this here, you'll know what I'm talking about ).

Offer helpful tips and help others with their questions. If you don't know an answer to a question, do some research and then respond to it.

Whatever you do, don't spam a forum. It won't work out for you and just annoys everyone else.


There are lots of other ways you can promote affiliate offers online but this is a good start. If one method is getting you better results than an other, focus your efforts on that.

As mentioned before, while you're using the above methods to get some affiliate sales, make sure you're working on your own blog/website and squeeze page. You want to have a website that you can advertise affiliate offers on and be building a list that you can promote offers to.
