Paypal redirection issues on payment?

INTERNET MARKETING

Hi folks,

I use paypal to accept payment for several digital products online. I use the automatic re-direction to download feature when I create the paypal button.

The issue is at least 50% of people don't get redirected. Does anybody else get this issue?

If so, is there a solution or workaround?

Regards,

Jane.

I would call PayPal and make them work for their money and have them get to the bottom of this.

I use to get only 50% of the notifications until I complained then this problem went away.

  Hi,

It may have to do with the Auto-Return function being switched on.

I had this same problem until I turned it off!

  Hi Jamie,

  Auto-pay is off.
I seem to think that it is more of a user problem of people not waiting for the redirect to happen and clicking refresh etc.

  Jane.

  Thanks

  Hi Jane

Check your profile and your settings. Do you have auto return turned on as quite often it is better to turn this off and make them click on the button to then go to get the product.

Also give brief explanation on your site.

  Thanks Quentin,

Auto-return is off, however I may need to tell them to press the button to return to my download page.

  Hello Jane

I tell them to 'click to return' both on my order page and on a very big, very blue banner that is displayed on the PayPal payment page itself.

You can set the URL of your banner image in your PayPal account. Go into 'Profile' then 'Custom Payment Pages'.

Note that the image URL has to be an 'https://' URL (note the s) so that your customer doesn't get the 'some items on this page are not secure' (or whatever it says) box popping up.

If you don't have the necessary security on your own hosting service or server to be able to serve the image using an 'https://' URL then you can use a free service such as:

SSLpic - Free SSL Image hosting for PayPal.

One advantage of doing this with the PayPal banner is that all your customers will see it for all your products and sites.

Since I set all this up, the non-returns have all but vanished.

  I hope this helps.

  Cheers,

  Neil

  Thanks

That's an exceptionally clever idea Neil.

Thank you so much for sharing.

With some scripts requiring Paypal's IPN the redirect can go down because Paypal's
  IPN service is temporarily down.

  Kindest regards,

  Andrew, thank you!

I get round the IPN unreliability issue completely by not using it.

When PayPal returns the user to the 'thank you' page on your site they also POST (or you can use GET) many variables from the transaction to your page. I use those to validate the transaction and do the final processing for the sale.

If you know PHP you can easily set this up.

And I've also used the same thing when setting up PayPal subscriptions so I know it works for that too.

Maybe I should package this up into a WSO LOL!

  Cheers,

  Neil

  Thanks

For anyone that's interested, here's the banner I use that's hosted on a free SSL site:

  https://www.e-junkie.com/sslpic/5356...5cb6e9242b.gif

And just for good measure, I chose to highlight the 'secure payment' aspect in the banner too.

The maximum size that PayPal allow is 750 pixels wide by 90 pixels high.

  Cheers,

  Neil

  Thanks
