Installing a Wordpress Blog to a Domain

I am going to be installing a new wordpress blog to my domain, and I am trying to decide whether to have the blog as a sub domain (blog.domain.co.uk) or as a sub directory (domain.co.uk/blog). Are there any differences to ranking etc with each of these or does it not matter?

Thanks for your reply. I have an ecommerce store being built currently, and couldn't decide which way to go. So the best way is the sub directory, for any type of website?

      Thanks for your help.

Sorry, but there is no "the best" way for any type of site...
There is nothing "best" for any type of site.

You have to make a decision based on your site's needs, goal, structure etc.

Basically it will be used for articles in my niche, with links to product pages and other articles in my blog. I would like it to be part of my website. Am I right in thinking the sub domain will then be better for this? Also, I know that content is important so the sub directory should help my main domain with this?

The reason I'm asking all of this is because I used to have a different ecommerce store that had the blog as a sub domain. It's good to know though that it doesn't make too much difference.

          Thanks for your help.

There is really no difference ranking wise.

You can however install on your primary domain, and make the /blog area a category, and select a static front page to display on the site so that it is all under wordpress.

According to some experts... subdomains are viewed by search engines as different sites. Which would mean subdirectories get link juice from the main (root) domain, while subdomains don't.

The most common way is a sub directory (site.com/blog) but as mentioned, there really isn't a difference between both of them.

Personally I always use them as opposed to sub domains.

there is no difference in ranking. but you should go for /sub because its mostly people tend to type in the address bar.

For what it's worth, over the years I have seen a number of blogs that started using the subdomain, then switch over to using a subdirectory.

I personally use either a subdirectory, or the root directory when the blog is the site.

I never use /blog for any of my sites. I think honestly it is a matter of personal choice. I don't think it would make a difference in rankings at all.
