Newbie Making First Sale with Amazon

This evening is really surprising time for me because someone buy one of product that I promote in my website, YAY.

I started to learn IM since last February through Pat Flynn smart passive income blog and I know If I follow the guidelines I will make some dollar from my website. I start with zero investment, not really zero I pay for hosting and domain actually. Start with market samurai free trial, I was searching for the best keyword to target and got good one. However even I got good keyword to target I didn’t execute at that time and it was wrong decision because when I start to optimize that keyword the competition is already high. One mistake that I’ll never do it in the future if I get good keyword to target.

Since the competition is really high and I’ll find difficult time to optimizing it. I have to find another keyword that still relevant with my first keyword, and thanks god I got one. I optimize that keyword and within a month or so I get at the first page of google. Even my website stay at the first page of google for that 2nd keyword, my Adsense and Amazon is really poor because no one click both of them. So I was wondering what’s wrong with my website. I changed my theme several time and still didn’t work, and yesterday I heard some good quote from someone who get success selling with Amazon products

“ Whatever Amazon trying to tell you about making money is the worst thing to making money”

That is really happen. Here is my experience about Amazon method that don’t work for me

1 Put Amazon e-store
2. Using Amazon Widget
3. Integrating wordpress with Amazon Product In a Post Plugin ( with this plugin at the bottom of your post/page there will be some “buy now from Amazon” button)

None of them generate money for me. So since 2 days ago I try to put an image in post that linked to my affiliate link and today I get my first sale. I’m so happy with this result even just 5% conversion will not make me rich but I will working harder to make more sale so I can get more money.
Here is Amazon method that works for me

1. Put an image that injected with my Amazon affiliate link in my sales page.
2. Using some teaser ( Ex : Click to find lowest price, find the lowest price here)
3. Make Honest Review

Now is the time to learn about optimizing Adsense, If you guys have another method that works for Amazon or Adsense please feel free to share so I can learn more and increasing my Amazon earning

Thanks for reading and good luck with everything
(sorry for my bad english )

    Hi,

I think the best method is to write an honest review about the product that you are promoting. No point in just reprinting product description i.e. using a widget. Need to add value....

Totally agree with Allen as well - all about the "honest review" and of course "adding value."

I am very happy to see you made your first sell there is no better feeling then that first sell.

I am not sure if your site is dedicated to only promoting amazon products but you can also try adding other advertisers such as google adsense or clickbank

I started off with amazon but started branching off to see what ads help me make the most money.

I am sure by sharing your experience it will help lots of warriors. Good luck and wish you tons of success

Pat Flynn has some excellent tips so you cannot go wrong following his advice.

Product review sites tend to be the best format for sales conversions. It's ok to have widgets but you don't want to overdo the widgets or flashiness of the site. Believe it ot not, it is the text that will sell it for you, so be sure to add value to your visitors' experience by posting informative product reviews.

Try to revolve your site around a product category or niche and go after the category and product keywords that rank well in the Amazon best seller list AND have decent volume in the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

Don't be surprised if you see a decent percentages of unrelated sales as your keywords stabilize in high rankings....That's the beauty of the 24 hour Amazon cookie!

Keep up the good work...and results!

Many congrats on your sale. I know you can't wait to make more! Any thoughts of moving to other affiliate platforms like Clickbank, eBay (well not really an affiliate program anymore), etc?

If so I'm sure you can adapt the methods you currently use and really rack up! More websites, more success, more great threads sharing your success like this one.

The only thing bad about the first sale is how you want to check back every few hours to see if you made another sale. I made my first amazon sale about a month ago and have just now started to stop checking every few hours,ha.

Thanks for your kind word. Yup I already put an adsense in my website but just decent click that I get. not worth enough to pay my hosting bills . I'll try to sell more expensive product from amazon hoping that I'll get more conversion.

        Good luck for you mate

Really good suggestion Michael, I was wondering to promote general shampoo in my website but since my website topic is about hair loss, is that possible to promote different product that not really related to my keyword?

Very good job and thanks for sharing the tips.
BTW, is there the best way to write a review? Some people recommended to cut and paste or summarize the original reviews. Is that the way you do it?
I'm damn poor with english and I got double difficult time when creating article that attract consumer. So the best answer is to find writer and thanks god I find one and he is offering with good price, $2 with High quality article is really worth, isnt it?

Since Amazon has been the most trusted online store I'll keep my way in Amazon but for other nice I'll consider to put affiliate link from clickbank since the conversion is higher than Amazon.

Thanks for firing up me. Yup I'll create another success story once I find another great formula

i am so happy with the success you have achieved. i am new to internet marketing and would love some advice from you.

i am looking to build some sites and the confusing part for me is the keyword research. can u tell me little about what made you decide that 1st keyword is so competitive and the second one is less in that ? some detailed explanation, i.e some step by step method to choose the keyword and determine its competition (and to know if we can rank for a keyword or not) will be much appreciated. im glad if you can help.

also, what are the off-site optimization methods you follow, or you did only the on-site optimization to get the first page of google ?

hoping to hear soon from you, and from anyone who can help me with this..

    thanks.

Hey Neighbor (based in SG here), CONGRATS!

We have so much in common:

    1) Got interested with IM because of SPI/Pat
    2) Started with Amazon niche

My experience is pretty much the same as yours sans the sale part (I earned my first 'cents' on my niche site through Adsense, none from Amazon yet)... this is pretty much my latest update...

lol that was Chris Guthrie who originally said that, and I posted it in this thread here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post4364804

Here's what you need to do (if you havnt already):

-Write a review on the product. At least 1000 words. Do not start your review by saying 'today Im going to review XYZ'! Try and weave a story in there...people love stories.

-Once you have your review on your page, add images, headings, and testimonials. All of this stuff can be copied from Amazon..

-You want at least 5-7 affiliate links within the review. link the images (as you've done), link the product name and also place links under testimonials with something like 'Click Here To Read More On Amazon'..

And thats pretty much all there is to it. Some of increased click throughs further by adding a 'buy now' button that looks like Amazons own buttons..but I've yet to test this..In case your wondering, my Amazon sites pull ~11 sales every few days.

great info in short. do u mind if i ask, what is better out of the following.
      1. using a domain like "lcd tv" for site. i know that using "samsung lcd tv" is more narrow and less in competition, but wont that cause trademark issues ?
      2. what is best keyword to target the articles ?
using a kw like "samsung XYZ1234 lcd tv" and builidng each review on site around such kw's , or using general kw's to target ?

hope some good advise. (sorry abt my english)
ask if i am not so clear with wht i am asking.

I wouldn't advise putting a brand name in any domain. That company can demand you give them your site/take it down. You can find tons of threads on this forum of that happening to people. You might get away with it for awhile, but do you really want to risk all your hard work being taken away and you not being able to do anything about it?

great advice for me i guess. now , does that mean that i should use something like "lcdtvreviews.com" other than using "samsungXYZ123.com". i know that exact match domain rank themselves with 1-2 posts and no backlinks at all. but now i see that it can cause troubles in future. so... any ideas on how narrow the site must be to get easy and quick ranking ?

As already mentioned you dont want copyrighted names in your domain. So heres what you do: you build your site to target the general terms i.e lcd tv reviews. You then have pages on that domain specific to products i.e. www.lcdtvreviews.com/samsung-XYZ1234-review

that way your doing nothing wrong. This also allows you to put multiple reviews on one website (you want atleast 5 that will be getting good traffic). This also allows you to not only get the traffic that are searching for the specific product, but also the generic terms too. It is alot harder to rank for generic terms, but, it can be done.

P.S. when I say "good traffic". You want atleast 1000 searches per day, approximately, from multiple keywords. Because when you consider you may get 40% traffic if you get to #1, then approximately 1% will click through and buy...you still want the possibility of getting ~1 sale per day which should be your goal. Once the site is doing that, go build another!

thanks for the advice. i think that ur approach is the best to follow. that way i can build some authority for the sites along with the time.

would anyone mind sharing some tips on doing keyword research, selecting nice kw to rank easily with very low comp. and nice traffic ? no matter even if ur method has something to do with a software tool.
this is where i go wrong all the time. once i could pick a kw, i know the rest of things very well.

thanks for all of u on ideas on this nice thread.

Congrats man! It's a wonderful feeling to make that first sale! You should be proud of it and even more proud of your linked image discovery! That's smth. you discover only by testing.

Also you could try some different ad placements following the google heatmap.
